True. By 1944 and after pretty much any ship the Japanese launched was doomed to become fish habitat. A ship in vain but a cool looking one at least.

That BC would be a nice add to the game, i did a goggle search and never found the BC but I did find a CL that was started in 1939 by that name. That website you have been talking about, did he have any stats on it?

If this is the 1913 BB type, then I'm looking for it.

Still working on the full list...doing research on what I want to include and not include.

I've been messing around with some alternative history "never-were" designs. Here's my first batch.

2. Middle: Apparently there were very tentative plans to convert some Omaha class cruisers into light carriers in the 1930s I believe. Never even got off the drawing board but if they had... And of course a boiler and armament refit for Omaha. Problem here was that the Omaha's hulls were too narrow to become a stable platform for A/C operations/storage.

3. Right: What if the Royal Navy had upgraded its "D" Class cruisers to destroyer leaders utilizing DP guns? Problem here is that the RN just didn't have enough good DP weapons. They even tried to buy US 5/38's to fill this gap..., but even the massive production of America wasn't enough to meet more than our own needs.

I'll post some shils and sides over the weekend for these ships. In the mean time, here are some teasers.

EDIT: These ships are basically standard WITP:AE images which have been doctored up a bit. The bottom row are the original AE ship sides. Above are my conversions.

The more I look at it, the more I have to agree regarding the Omahas as CVLs. As far as having enough good DP weapons, I suppose you could sacrifice some wartime BB production to free up resources for modernization, get rid of Vanguard and Howe maybe?

Likely the Omaha CV would have ended up a lot like Langley did...used as a test platform and learning experience (after they figured out it wouldn't work), before being converted into a seaplane support ship.

As far as ship sides I'm looking at, will have to compile a list...some already exist in the old WiTP add-on artwork...but some, like the Tillmans might be an interesting foray into over-built failures.

Also looking into the feasibility of keeping some of the older ships in reserve service, seeing how there is no treaty to force their scrapping (obviously not talking turn of the century relics, but rather some of the WWI built ships that the various navies scrapped in favour of new tonnage).

I have a reworked version of HMS Tiger and HMS Erin stashed somewhere on one of my hard drives. I'll have to dig them up.

EDIT: The things about the Tllmans is that strictly speaking, they won't fit in the standard ship side frame.

Technically speaking, the Tillman's were about as out there as you can get. If they have to be out of scale a bit, then they have to be out of scale.

I also ran the Tillman's through Springsharp, and to be honest, they just don't work that well. Basically, I ended up taking the 15 x 18" (the Tillman IV IIRC) gun version, and dropped the rifles to 16" and got something workable (though I doubt very feasible even then). The composite strength just wasn't working out, the hull was always under strain.

Likely they would have been laid down in 1942, as Large Cruisers per plan...in the real war, these were never laid down due to Midway and the need for new carriers in a hurry. They could be converted in the slip as well.

Something that may be little known is that before the Washington Treaty nixed them, the Japanese had a plan for two Shokaku Class carriers (that would have been a slightly enlarged Hosho), scheduled to be laid down in 1924. These were canceled and Akagi and Kaga were converted (they were already in the slips).

Thanks J Boomer, when all is said and done it's really not my stuff, though. I add my own flourishes here and there but most of it is existing WITP:AE art which I've doctored up or cut and paste. So really it's probably Big B, JWE, or Tomlabel who did the hard work on these.

I used to make my own ship sides from scratch. That's the way I did pretty much every ship up until now but I gave up on that. Too much work. I just don't have that kind of time these days. It's a lot easier to cut & paste, chop and mince detail a little here and there.

Here's an almost entirely scratch-built Bismarck and Scharnhorst (save for the hull). Maybe someone will do a European theater mod. I think Dali is.

OK, this is the 2nd Option of the CF Cruiser (the flying deck cruiser) that I attempted to make myself. With having only a description and no blueprints, I had to use artistic (I use that term loosely) license and came up with what I'll post at the bottom. I would like to see your take on it.

Stats 3x3 6in/50, 6x1 5in/25, 'portable' .5in MGs

While this sides are not, I believe the turrets should have been super-firing.

Credit: Basically I just modified the in standard AE-Brooklyn art to make this..not intended for release, just a place-holder until something better came along.

Very well done for your first ships. You should see the first one I ever did. Big B got a real laugh out of that one.

Thank you. Though as you could probably tell, I wasn't particularly satisfied with it myself (I do tend to be a perfectionist). I did find it extremely difficult to work at such a small scale, which is the opposite of what you'd expect. Would still like to see what you come up with, sometimes a different perspective is all that is needed.

If you are interested/willing, here is a start to the list of ships I'm looking to add:

-Thai Taksin/Naresuan CL: For this one you will need to reference the Italian CLAA Etna as these ships were not completed or delivered and were taken over by the Italian Navy.

IJN
Pre-dreadnaughts
-Asahi: Former BB...fake turrets in place of the real ones so it still looks like an old Pre-dreadnaught but with large cranes admidships...it is technically a repair ship/sub tender.
-Fuji
-Shikishima
-Mikasa
-Kashima
-Satsuma

Dreadnaughts:
-Settsu

Protected Cruisers:
-Akitsushima
-Suma
-Tsushima
-Chikuma

Armored Cruisers:
-Ibuki
-Tsukuba
-Kasuga
-Yakumo
-Asama
-Azuma

Destroyers:
-Asakaze
-Umikaze
-Sakura
-Kaba
-Urakaze
-Isokaze

Most of these made it to the 1930s, and the cruisers and capital ships were actually still in existence during the war as training ships/hulks (some of them sunk in ports by USN Bombers).

So if you are interested, here is a project or two. I'm going to keep trying my hand at it, but any pointers you can give me for making the graphics would be appreciated.

Big B has an awesome version of Settsu, modernized for a shore bombardment role. You can find it on RogueUSMC's site.

What are you planning for the protected cruisers, armored cruisers and early pre-dreadnaughts? Do you plan on making auxiliaries out of them or are they going to retain their designations?
