First of all my machine: 350 AMD-K6 3DNow! 64mb DIMM 20 gig. hdd. voodoo III 3000 (newest drivers) sound blaster 64PCI (newest drivers) logitech mouseman+ My problem is that the game is VERY slow, even when scrolling the screen. Some time ago I saw a post which saied about same problems with 750 Athlon. Maybe it's some AMD bug?? Anyone else having similar problems?

Yeah, mine is slow with this game only too, I have AMD K6-2 266mhz 128mb RAM, 12gig hd, this is the only game which does this, so maybe. Panzer Commander, Red Baron 3D, Microsoft Combat Flight Sim., all run fine with the Voodoo II, so it's something with this game and my AMD I guess.Do you notice it's worse with the winter and desert terrain, or not? Also the larger maps make it slower, it's not really a big deal, I mean slow, but not jerky really, they move ok, so I don't worry about it, just way slower than the DOS days of the game ------------------ Mike Amos Meine Ehre Heisst Treue

I've got the VooDoo 3 with a 500MHz Pentium III, and now I'm beginning to wonder about the VooDoo and problems I've had with the game. I'm also glad you mentioned the AMD, since I'm about to upgrade to a 1 GHz Athlon, with the VooDoo 4500. Your posts may cause me to reconsider the configuration. Thanks.

I've got no troubles with my AMD Athlon (slot A AMD 750 Motherboard chipset) 800. 256 meg ram, 30gig HD, Sound Blaster Live and an Asus GeForce 2 GTS Video card. The game runs just fine, even if I have a few other applications running in the background (Netscape conected to the internet, Net Vampire downloading files, AutoCAD 200i) & switch from one application to another during game play The problems with performance are not always hardware, your system's software (Registry, TSR's, system drivers, etc.) However, the 350 K6 processor is a bit long in the tooth & 64 meg of ram is the bare minimum to get Win 98 or ME running with normal applications. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com nwbattalion@icqmail.com

I have virtually the same set up as original poster, only differences are a SB 16PCI soundcard and 128MB SDRAM. SPWaW runs great no scrolling problems and regularly use several other programs at same time (mainly excel, Outlook and ICQ). Never had any problems so it may be the RAM that is the issue. Note I also run it on WinME and never had a prob.

I have an amd k6 2 550 3d now, voodoo 3000, 128MB ran, SB Alive sound card. 8G main, 540MB backup HD. The only time I have the game slow down is when I forget to turn off Norton's or other auto aux. system's before I start. Other wise no problems, just modoem not staying on or very slow. Don

K6-2 266 (actually, overclocked to 300), 64 megs of RAM, and it runs slow on all but the smaller scenarios. And that is with NOTHING but systray and explorer running! I always know when the enemy can see my units moving, because my units suddenly become painfully slow.

have to say it looks like the RAM is the issue, only people seeming to get same problem seem to have 64MB rather than 128MB, looks like this is the problem Mana ------------------ peter@myhelliconia.freeserve.co.uk http://www.myhelliconia.freeserve.co.uk

AMD K6 3DNow 350 Mhz 256 MB RAM 8 GB HDD 16 MB Generic Video Every now and again I get a strange slow up. I notice it during arty barrages. My unit density is usually low. Although on occasion I have done one of the AI generated campaigns. The slow down happens more often with high unit density. If it really bugs me - I shut down (cold start) and that usually clears the problem. If I do something with a high unit density - I'll clear out Systray prior to starting the game. I figure it's a mem leak somewhere.

K6-2 350 64 MB ram 8 MB Intel 710 graphics card Runs absolutely fine. A small slowdown when my units move into sight of the enemy but nothing crippeling. ------------------ Lars Nec Temere - Nec Timide

I conclude from reading the posts that the issue with slowing down seems to be restricted to "slower" (less than 400 Mhz) K6-2 (w. 3DNow) with less than 128 Mb. I don't really know about the specs for the game but it should be enough (myself using PII 350 MHz w. 128 Mb RAM and Voodoo3. Never had any speedproblems). Maybe the older architecture of the K6-2 is causing the problems? Something for the coders to look into, maybe? ------------------ _______________________ Thornado - You'll never know what hit you - [This message has been edited by Thornado (edited December 11, 2000).]

I tested the game with K5-166 on Chaintech 5IFM 0 (this is not supposed to work together at all - says Chaintech ) [430 HX Chipset] and 64MB EDO RAM. I forgot : it has a S3 TrioV64 2 MB PCI graphics card !!! What should I say? With all delays set to "0" the game runs just fine !!! (Ok - I didn't test with Monster Campiagns ..) So I would say it's a case of wrong configuration !! I do have a Voodoo 3 card (and I don't even have the latest drivers) but I haven't had one problem with SPWAW. SP1 -> SP3 is a completly different subject though. I had to use a little program called "TryVESA" to make the Voodoocard actually recognize the games as using VESA... ------------------ _______________________ Thornado - You'll never know what hit you -

it is a 2d card so i doubt that the v/c would be the cause so we can strike that out as a cause. In fact as a v2 or v1 has nothing at all (thats voodoo not v) to do with 2d then it would have no effect at all and all new v/c or very fast at 2d so they surely are not the prob. How much ram does it need, the original did not run at all properly on my 486 sx33 with 5meg ram but ran very well with 8meg ram. But for starters that was in dos, win98 even on an efficient load with few taskbar programs will use 40-60 mb (and more if you let then taskbar things run) so if you have 64mb things could get bad. If you have 64mb make sure you have as much as possible free. And if you are running win95 (and maybe win98) and have little ram make sure that sure that the virtual memory is set to thje same min and max size because when it resizes the virtual mem it is very slow (so keeping it constant stops it resizing). People with 64mb use system monitor to determine your free ram before and during play.

I don't think it is a RAM problem. I don't have any loading problems anywhere. It's just the FPS, which is Very Low. I remember that I had the same problem in SP1 with my 166 AMD. My friend had 200 Intel and it worked perfectly... I think I'm going to post a message to technical suppory today.
