Is that a UH-1 or a Catalina, I cannot tell.

Neither, it's a PB.UH-1

And please don't ask what it's doing on top of a building...

Madre de Dios! Don't let Wikileaks get a hold of that! That is the PB.UH-1X/VSTOL variant. Highly clasified. I don't think I've ever seen one outside of Pitcarin.

Here is the salient question. What bad thing is happening?

This AAR dropping to page 2?

I do like Cap Mandrake's attention to detail - note the M&M marking on the helicopter. Although I do wonder, as this is an M&M service, why they wouldn't be accepting greenbacks in lieu of boarding passess?

Alfred

Yes, indeed, cash is king, but the average infantryman on La Foa in early June 42 is not carrying.

Here is the salient question. What bad thing is happening?

Well, since no one else will state the obvious... a fool will rush in:

Resistance has collapsed and the last plane to leave Sai..., er La Foa or whatever it is being called has left in an overloaded hurry...

Indeed. A sad day. I had intended to get Geiger out but I thought we might get another day of 1:1 with Geiger in charge. The ammo shortage drove it down to 2:1 and the heroic chaps tossed it in.

Oddly, the troop losses seemed way to low (about 8K)

Alarmingly, the VP ratio is now about 2:1 with 11,000 pts from Allied troop losses Are we going to suffer an auto-loss on points??? (pretend I didn't read the manual).

Japan needs 4:1 from 1 January 1943 to 31 December 1943 for auto victory. You should be safe.

*************June 4, 1942***********

Solomons: An S boat, S-46 to be precise, put a dud torp into DD Minegumo near the Russel Islands (near Guadalcanal). Minegumo was escorting Nagato and Kirishima.

The idiots in Naval Intelligence told us Nagato was sunk. As Mark Twain might have said, the reports of her demise appear to have been overstated. I think the two BB's were at Lunga pumping out seawater and now they are trying to make Rabaul. That's what S-46 was waiting for. I have a few more subs lotering near Rabaul, perhaps we can get lucky.

Norfolk Is: I called off the Norfolk landing for now as the emergent need to rescue from La Foa is moot. Instead the two Marine regiments dedicated to this will rest and prepare at Auckland. If the Japs try to reinforce Norfolk, I think we can make trouble for them. B-17's attacked today. There are now some Oscars there. Koumac has 600 aircraft!

Fiji: The island is strongly garrisoned but needs fuel and supplies. I am going to put a Bn each of 103rd Regt on the small islands S and SE of Fiji that are buildable to level 4/5 airfields.

Enterpise and Hornet will retire to Wellington to flesh out an SBD group. They can operate from there for now to protect the New Zealand. They are joined by one RN carrier.

Tonga:
Still unguarded. I am working on it.

Oz: The massive convoy down the road from Darwin to Katherine continues. No Jap attack at Katherine yet but it can't be long. Admiral Lord Sprior wisely got the aircraft out of Katherine except for a few P-39's. The medium bombers will not be able to reach the battlefield near Katherine until Tenant creek reaches level 2. B-17's are flying from Alice.

Not to be a pessimist, but things can always get even worse, so there's a fighting chance of even 7:1.

Remember, "They can always hurt you more." ...Hunter S. Thompson (and he would know!)

But my money's still on the Cap and Lord Admiral.

We non-Britishers have that, too... WD40 is cooler, though, since you can spray it on your hook and use it for fishing bait (it seems it is fish oil).

His Excellency Admiral Lord Sprior;

My Dearest Spri;

Just wanted to let you know I detailed 2 squadrons of B-26 to Horn Island to try to hit the Jap convoy coming across the Arafua Sea.

Also, Johnny Jap is reconning Fenton (North of Katherine). They may be planning another drop of paraJaps.

Prince of Wales is now 100 days out and Repulse is 36 days out. Formidable is 14 days out. I will outfit her with some USMC F4F's to make up for the loss of the RN F4F's. She needs to go back to Gibraltar in 60 days or so.

With the greatest forebearance,

Fleet Admiral Mandrake

paraJaps? Wouldn't paraLYBs be the correct term?
