In the "scen" folder. Make sure you don't overwrite another scenario with the same number.

I can renumber them, i think or hope it asks me. When I view the downloaded ones, will it also tell me about the scenerio like the others do? ie historical back ground and such?

There should be a .dat file, which contains the map and units.
There should be a .cmt file, which contains the scenario title.
There can also be a .txt file, which contains the notes about the scenario.
If the scenario is loaded into the editor, a .rec file is generated.

Only the .dat file is really mandatory, though the scenarios will not show in the pick list without the .cmt file.
thanks, John.

ALWAYS unzip downloaded scenarios to a temporary directory and NEVER EVER straight into the scen directory in case you overwrite an exising scenario.

Rename the downloaded scenario to a vacant slot number then copy into the scen directory.

The following command typed in a DOS window does the trick of renaming all the files in one step (and avoids embarrassing typing errors  ).

rename scen000.* scen042.*
(substitute slot numbers as appropriate in the line above).

Alternatively there is an old Windows based program called SP Manager 3.0 which may still be around if you do a bit of digging.

There is also another windows based program called Scenario Wrangler currently available from http://www.ectopia.net/~ectizen/.
From the readme file

What is Scenario Wrangler
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scenario wrangler is a tool for managing SP:WAW data files. It allows you
manipulate scenarios, maps and saved games.

Currently, you can view information about the files, move them between slots in
a directory and move them to other directories. You can also print out the
information. In future, you will be able to do more.
Note the warning about unzipping to the scen directory still applies......

The .rec file is a replay file of your opponents turn. Don't worry too much about it as a new one will be created when you play.

Hope you find this useful,
Reg.

Tankheads SPWaW Resources has a copy of the SP Manager 3.0 on his download page.

Not a bad little program but doesn't copy .rec files (they are a SPWaW innovation after this program was written) but as I said above, these files will be replaced the first time you play.

Cheers,
Reg.

Fo ... fo ... fo heaven's sake. Go right now and get Scenario Wrangler from: www.ectopia.net/~ectizen/ ----- not only does it allow a complete alternate folder for "stored" scenarios. Also lets you double-click (or single if you're set up that way) on the title and read the accompanying text file.

Wrangler is freeware, what else would you want?? Use it and enjoy it. Still doesn't sort but watcha want for free?

Bing

I already and have and use both (check my post above). All tools have their strengths and I think that there is a place for both of these.

SP Manager also allows you to copy to alternate directories and to read the description text files by double clicking on them. The real strength of Wrangler is it's ability to extract scenario setup information from out of the data file.

I was just offering people the choice as I find SP Manager better for finding vacant slots (due to its sorting feature). I'm all for simple and effective tools.

I started something similar a while ago to move campaigns and map files as well as scenarios between slots. If someone e-mails me an extra eight hours a day I should finish it off.

Cheers,
Reg.
