I tested reinforcement activation three times in New Zealand, once on South Island, once on North, once on South in a non-base hex. I did not know if there was any defined trigger line, so I picked the two bases farthest south and north.

Note: the test run was done with a save game from the Tasmania test. This means that the Oz reinforcements had already been activated and were in the Allied OOB at the time of the New Zealand test. If New Zealand activated, this would, in addition to revealing the New Zealand process and units, indicate that multiple emergency activations are possible on the same map in a single game, should the Japanese player pass multiple trigger lines.

Methodology--Test One:

1) Sailed the Tasmania amphib TF to South Island with orders to unload and attack Invercargill.

2) Upon unloading, before the base fell, the New Zealand reinforcements activated on the Allied phase.

3) The Ops Report print-out confirmed that it does not print in chronological sequence. IOW, the announcement of the activation is separated from the LCU descriptors by other, routine leader, ship, and LCU activations happening on schedule from the normal arrival queues.

Editorial Comment: Andy Mac likes the Kiwis! On a per square mile basis, these reinforcements are pretty stiff compared to what Oz gets, although some have a LONG way to travel to do any good for New Zealand.

I haven't kept up on the boards, but I'm surprised in these reinforcement threads you are starting no one has wondered why the units arrive in Aden/Canada instantly. Perhaps this is a limitation of the engine itself for this kind of triggering, but I would have thought a more elegant/accurate method would be to have a delayed arrival. The unit would arrive in Aden in X number of days, depending on roughly how far away from theater they are, with some time to extract battle units, etc..

This might have been covered and I just missed someone saying "oh yeah, it's an engine limit".

Was this test done after the Oz test? Meaning were the Oz forces already activated before this test? Would be interesting to see if any of those units activated if just NZ was invaded.

Yes, it was in the Note I put at the top. Probably should have bolded it. It was the Oz activation save game, rolled forward for transit time.

Each trigger has its own package of units. The Oz units only activate with the Oz trigger line, and the NZ units with any land hex in NZ. Each of them watches the other be invaded and does nothing.

I thought of that too and just chalked it up to a necesary abstraction. Then I thought about it and considered that if such an even occured in RL, it would not have been a surprise. Even without breaking the Japanese codes, signals intelligence especially traffic analysis was highly effective. This is one place where the game's Sigint function fails us. Both sides had a pretty good idea of the location of major units throughout the war. The Battles of Santa Cruz and Eastern Solomons were no accidents. Traffic analysis told both sides the opponent's carriers were at sea and where they were before they departed.

I view the instant arrival as merely the game representing preparations going on in the background as the threat grows. It is only when the actually event occurs that the players see what was going on behind the scenes all along. At least that is how I explain it

The reinforcements can be checked in the editor as well, they're listed there in a separate section and as Bullwinkle said, it is shown quite clearly that the units are assigned to a single activation zone. It seems extremely unlikely that you get troops A for Oz, B for NZ, but A+B+C for Oz+Nz. These tests are mainly of interest to know where the activation zones are exactly.

Nah, that's not politics. Wait till next year when the World Rugby Cup is played in New Zealand and everyone in the land of the long white cloud will be hoping that once again, the favourites (ie the All Blacks) are not eliminated by the Wallabies. They will be very nervous already following the result in Hong Kong 2 weekends ago.

It's been on my list of things to do, but I admit I haven't gotten there. I have sound mods, and pin-up mods, butI haven't done anything with units yet.

Hm, nice...so now I know what Al got when I invaded and captured his Home Islands
- Looks like it's a good deal for the Allies even if they loose some extra units that have been ferried in to stiffen the Home Island garrisons.

Plain aircraft are added to the replacement pools, which can be quite a helpful boost. Air units 'arrive' somewhere just like normal.

It is a convoy.  You do nothing.  In 3 days it will get disbanded and all of those devices you see listed will go to your pools for you to reinforce your units.  Allied production is a bit 'hidden' as they get a lot of devices and aircraft via convoy.
