FROM: GEN.SHUNROKU HATA, CHINA EXP. ARMY. SIAN FRONTLINE TO: GEN. HAJIME SUGIYAMA, IJA GENERAL STAFF CHIEF. IGHQ. TOKYO SUBJECT: SOUTHERN OFFENSIVE DATE: MAY 30TH, 1942 Coordinated with our epic offensive in the North, our XVI and XXIII Armies are ready to push enemy in the South. With main chinese armies in the north to avoid the capture of Sian, our forces have landing at Indochina and all XVI Army is ready to start our offensive to capture Liüchow. Severely damages after air strikes day after day, enemy resistance in the air have dissapear. Our armoured forces (2nd and 8th Tank Regiments, with 2nd Recce Regiment) will cross the river, north of Liuchow, and will smash one enemy ground unit. At same time, XXIII Army forces will start their offensive from eastern road. With enemy enclosed, I hope i can announce the cross of the river of XVI Army to Liuchow in few days. Another XXIII Army forces have destroyed one enemy corps at south of Sian in our mopping up activities. 12nd I.M.B. with 102nd I.R., 17th I.D (B detachment) and 8th Arm.Car Coy have stormed enemy positions (88th and 100th Chinese Corps) reporting 316 IJA casualties vs. 132 chinese men lost. These chinese units have withdrawing for months after the end of the campaign to capture Wenchow. Long Live to the EMPEROR ! END//
