Another newb here....:

1) I have a question about upgrades. I just purchased tech that gave me enhanced shipyard tech. Now, shouldn't I upgrade my space ports and construction ships? When I go to the design screen and select either a construction ship or space port, and I hit upgrade, I get an acknowledgment beep but nothing changes on the list. Is the upgrade order working? Is there some type of confirmation?

2) This hasn't happened in a game yet, but I've been curious about something. If I design a new freighter and mark the old design as obsolete, does that mean the private sector has to buy my new design? Or will they still have access to the older design? And, for that matter, is there a way to increase sales with a specific design?

Thanks! I'm sure this will be the first of many questions, though.

Another question:

When a ship is damaged, is there a way to see which components are damaged?

If you have ship design enabled as an option the AI will have already upgraded the design so pressing the upgrade button will not do anything. You may be experiencing some other issue but that is the most likely cause.

The private sector can only chose to buy non-obsolete designs. However, any ships that already exist (including those waiting to be built) will still be around.

With the unit selected double click on the selection panel to open the ships and bases screen. In the component tab you can see what components are damaged.

I'm about to go out so sorry for the brevity of my answers, let me know if you need a more in depth explanation.

I don't have the design process automated, so that can't be it. It could just be that I am not interpreting the feedback correctly. What is supposed to happen when you click on the upgrade button? Is there any feedback besides an electronic "chirp"?

Okay, thanks!

I curious about another hypothetical: let's say I create two new medium freighters that are slightly different from each other. Will the private sector purchase both equally? Or will they show a preference of one over the other. I am curious about how the private sectors actually operates in the game. If it shows a preference, than there is probably an optimum design that should be pursued to maximize sales. Otherwise, I guess the best design is one that just is the most modern.

Your construction yards on both your SpacePorts and construction ships should automatically upgrade
no matter what your option setting is. You can check by entering the design screen and at the top
see if the ship and base sizes you can build have increased. Also note that, if you get a notice or
buy new tech whether it is "enhanced" or a new "component". If a component, then you will need to
manually upgrade the ship/base/unit that you want to use it on.
