I installed version 4.0 (still trying to DL all the patches) and tried it on the weekend. I'm an old SP1 player so I found myself more or less at home. I started the German long campaign (my favourite after the Sov one) and I found out something weird (a bug?) The only way I could get rid of the pesky Polish infantry is to have them rout and "disperse". I have caused in excess of 40 casualties (!) to some units but these &%$# infantry squads just keep on tickin'... Looking a bit more carefully at the squad icon, I could see it "wrapping around" at 7 men (i.e full squad has 15 figures, I destroy 8 and it shows 7 figures, next casualty "resets" it back to 15). I tried doing a scenario as the Poles to see how many men are there in a Polish squad and ended up with 10 men per squad. Is this a normal thing for the Poles to have infantry squads the size of a company or is the computer commander cloning new men from bits and pieces of their falling comrades? Am I misunderstanding the "casualty" numbers as in "not capable for combat for the rest of the scenario" when in fact it's something else? Any insight would be appreciated. BTW, I also started a Soviet campaign and the Finnish Ski Infantry behaves fine - it dies as it is supposed to

Welcome, not sure if I understand correctly, but here goes The infantry icons have been modified to make it so you can't really 'count heads' as you're used to in other SP games, and also, the amount killed shown, is not always correct, FOW!! I kept the old infantry icons for my personal set, I like to count heads, well, just actually see the enemy squad deteriorate before my overwhelming fire superiority, heh, heh!! If you, or anyone else wants the old ones, feel free to private E-mail me, if there is too many e-mails, I may have to post them with the rest, but we'll see. Hope this helps? ------------------ Mike Amos Meine Ehre Heisst Treue

I finally remembered to turn off Limited Intel (doh!) and now I can see the unit size. I'll try and get a screenshot of the "1 casualty (42)" messages I've been getting (or maybe even a saved game). BTW, I'll have to correct some bad habits from SP1. It appears that in SPWAW AFVs are pretty ineffective against infantry. The best infantry killer I've seen is, well, infantry . I guess I'll have to re-think my armour-heavy core!

Hola Ivancito!! ¿no?). ------------------ No Pasarán!!

Do you speak Spanish? Don’t you, Ivancito? I had assumed that you’re an Spanish speaker since you’re in Chile... my apologies if you’re an English speaker living in south America... best regards

I seems to recalled that there was a bug in the earlier 4.x version that if you load up a save game, the infantry icons shows the full number of men again.

Yes, Infantry is now much more valuable than in earlier versions. Turn off the "Reduced Squads" option in the preferences menu. This used to cause a problem with casualties in infantry squads. Every time you save the game, the infantry squad will generate a new number of men, which could be higher than the healthy men. This was a bug in earlier versions. BA Evans

Hello Ivantico. As a response to your thoughts about AFV´s not being wery effective infantry killers. You can get better killing out of most AFV´s if their main armament is inactivated. That spares the crew a quality check for secondary arms (MG´S) and as a result the MG hit better. It also is more realistic. Just be shure to acivate main armament again if you soon expect to engage a tank.

To all/A todos: Thanks a lot for your help. I was amazed when I saw both the quantity and quality of the replies. This has to be one of the best on-line communities I've ever had the pleasure of participating in. To all the people that helped with the v.4.0 and "Reduced Squads" bug: Thanks. I'll try it out as soon as I get home. I still have quite a few MB of v.4.4 to download. To molset: Thanks for the tip! I didn't even know I could do that until last night - "Manuals are for wussies" is my motto - so I'm certainly going to try it out. I did notice PzKw Ib's and Psw 221's are a lot more efficient at mowing down the grunts than a PzKw IIIe...
