Post Patch 1.3

Things I've never seen before.

1. F5A lightning attacking subs, this is a good trick for a plane with no weapons.

2. B26 attacks barge, I like it, :D I've never seen a medium bomber attack a barge before.

3. Subs no longer attack with guns? I've so far haven't seen a sub use it's guns.

PS - Sorry but I like the old sub attack screen better, any way to get it back?

3) I've seen it once, but I must admit that they don't attack barges on the surface anymore (with or without escort). It used to be the one way I was actually getting them. Now, it just reveals my sub's location without any benefit. :(

P.S. If you can't get the screens any other way, here they are in jpg format. Just translate them back to bmp and put them into the ART directory.

I saw it once yesterday while playing against the AI. It used both a deck gun and TWO torpedoes on an unescorted AK.

My Bombardment TF hit mines, never seen that happen before.

Does anyone know if the problem with routine convoys(CS:DH)
with TKs AOs was fixed?

I had a bombardment TF hit mines too. Unfortunately they were my own mines. You'd think that that a 'friendly" minefield would be recorded on a chart somewhere.

The same TF commander managed to hit mines in the exact same place a few days later.

On his return to Luganville he was relieved of duty and returned to PH for court-martial. I asked him if he thought that Braille minesweeping was the best use of his battleships.:D

If you dont control the beach/port or its a sea hex you are just as likely to hit them as the enemy. One has the ask the question "will i ever, under any circumstances, want to send a TF here?"
I think mines are better used to keep the enemy out of places that currently no one owns. If you put them in an enemy port, its an even bet MSWs will come through first and get rid of them.

But the japs only have 10 or 12 minesweepers (Have never played as them, just going from a guess) and these are always the first 10-12 ships my submarines sink . . .

Well I thought that they were far enough NE and NW of Lunga that I could interdict IJN supply TFs and still allow my bombardment and later invasion TFs to get clear access.

Guess you have to swing those BBs really wide in the turns like a bus or something. So I ended up sweeping those mines. No biggie. I got lots of officers that want to belong to the Gun Club.;)

They have been after it for some time but no one has a save that will repeat it.

We need a save that will replicate on our machines. So far we havent been able to get one from anyone that will allow us to see this. We arent saying it isnt happening. We have to have a save of it so we can dig it out and fix it.

So bear with us on this till we can get this fellow pinned down.

No problem. I get around it by moving the Akagi to a different slot in custom scenarios. It only seems to happen to whatever ship is in slot number one.

I tried as IJN to retake buna via amphibious assault. WHen the transport TF arrived, they did not disembark. ALso, the button to unload cargo/troops was not selectable, ie, not lit up. What is wrong with this picture?

Yamamoto - I too have seen this type of result - TWICE. I'm playing one of the longer campaigns (version 1.3) as the Japanese and it is about 6/12/42 and the Allies have hit Lae airfield with three different aircraft types. I suspect that it is the fighter-bomber that keeps hitting Lae AIRFIELD with their 20mm (Turano -spelling) guns yet the Aircraft Carrier AKAGI is getting pelted with deck armor penetrations. Funny thing though AKAGI is not in the game, but it "is" on fire. I have two questions for the grissled veterans and not about this anomaly. Does CAP really stop anyone? I know that sounds funny but Jap/Allies/Land
/Carrier - regardless of the defense the combat seems to be minimal. I ask because I've seen 30 Jap fighters take on about 35-40 US/NZ/AUS fighters and maybe one side loses one aircraft and maybe another side has one damaged? I just assumed it would be bloody. (I know you are not supposed to assume). My other question is how does one lay mines and then once a field has been established how does one "reload" your ML with mines. I've tried a number of things as the Japanese and I can't figure it out - any assistance for this novice is greatly appreciated.

Forlorn Hope

Hi. Yes CAP does affect the outcome. Only a small part of the CAP ever engages and then only a few of them will score hits. If you search these boards, you will find many discussions on this issue. On a few occasions I have seen the CAP shoot down the entire attacking force.

As for mines you have to go to either Truk or Noumea to load mines. Early on player thought mines were being over used so Matrix made this change. If you have a ML ship you can just use the refuel at port to load them. If you are using subs you have to disband them then form a new mine laying TF.

Hope this helps,
Rick
