By the way, as of this week, IIRC, "The Simpsons" just became the longest running show in Television History.

Anyone guess the runner up?

Yeah, you're right about that...sometimes recollection of passe humor (like "Alf") helps one realize that we are sometimes better as a society now than we were then.

What is wrong with Alf?

I think that was Chickenboy's quote, Leo. I have nothing against Alf.

Yep... I realized that after I posted it... sorry...

Sorry, Leo.

I use Alf as an example of passe humor from two and a half decades ago. Anyone for "Different Strokes", "Welcome Back Kotter", or the "Cosby Show"? C'mon, man-they're dated. They're played, dude. Let 'em go...

Out of all those you listed I watched only "Alf"... and I did love it...

Yes, yes.  Longest Primetime Television show that is regularly scheduled before a domestic audience.

Furthermore, Coronation Street has a ways to go before it will beat out "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" for duration.  The former was on for 57 years (on TV since 1952), the latter first aired in 1956.  Coronation Street didn't start until 1961.  Noobs.

ETA: I hadn't realized your underlying devotion to British daytime TV, Simon. Do you partake regularly of 'your stories'?

Corrie is evening viewing, not daytime. Mrs P is partial to it.

Has it always been thus or has it moved in the schedule, since we're picking nits and all.

Clearly.  Just as Coronation Street is merely the longest currently running British drama (duration pales by comparison to other dramas stated), "The Simpsons" qualifies as the longest running primetime US television show.  It's good to be specific.
