Hi guys,

I will share with you today the title of the upcoming Distant Worlds expansion, which looks like it will make it out before Christmas.

Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi

We should have a Coming Soon forum and a product page with full feature list posted next week.

In the meantime, here's are a few screenshots to hold you over, starting with part of the new Empire Policy screen.

Regards,

- Erik

Here's the new Build Order screen. You might also notice a few other new interface elements if you look around.

Part of the Energy and Construction tree, there's quite a bit off-screen in each of these Research trees too:

And finally a Destroyer design with a few interesting features, also noted the interface elements in the bottom left. Thanks everyone, hang on until next week and let your friends know that Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi is coming!

Looking very very good. :)

But please change the red colour on the blue background in the Empire screen - just a bit. I'm colour blind and it is almost illegible for me. Instead of #F70B0B a lighter colour such as #FF885F would work much better.

Ummm...

Now that I've managed to regain my composure, it sure looks like a lot of the player suggestions were implemented. Can't wait!

Now I really want to see the modability of the expansion. The GE seems to have quite a bit of what I wanted...I hope the modding is this robust as well.

shield area recharge rate, could it be that there are shields that encompass an area around the ship now? instead of just protecting itself.

also noticed max population of space ports... possibly orbital habitats?

ion weapons... disables components?

dotted lines linking techs.. possible shortcuts to other techs?

some of the techs have icons that have upward pointing red arrows, retroactive upgrades to existing equipment?

there are two tracking and two countermeasure trees, dont know about the tracking ones, but the countermeasures one looks like holographic decoys! fun times ;D

Yay, good news!

The clincher for me is, whether it will have proper modding support for important things. (Not that changing the graphical side of things isn't modding, but I rather have custom components/research/stuff/story/gameplay and stock eye-candy than vice versa.)

So far I am most happy about that tech tree and the fighters.  Awesome job there!!!!!!!!!!!  I am curious if anything more was done to ensure that an escort was an escort and a frigate was a frigate in terms of tonnage no matter what design type or image the ship took on?  An escort should not be able to be a Capital Ship ( in terms of appearance or size ).  Also, you should not be able to choose a design from another race when you're designing your own ships.

I am also saddened that I do not see the concept of empire "territory" ( as in my space is blue and yours is red in the form of blobs extending outward from stars and connecting with each other to form your territory ).

I have to say that I was also hoping for more ship classes as well.

I do hope that you changed the "family" system so that each race now has their own ship style.  I would be most disappointed over that ( to the nth power ).

I'm very curious to see what has been done on the diplomacy side of things!!!!  I'm incredibly anxious!!!

I don't want you guys to get the idea that I don't like what I see....I do...I REALLY do!!!!!  I also want to thank you guys for your obvious hard work, especially the one who made that tech tree...that must have been tedious, and the speed with which you have put this together is simply awesome!!!!  Good Job guys...no matter what...I will still give you the highly sought after.......Simulation01 Award for High Concept!!!!!  How do you feel!??

I see there are race images on these techs. The holography ones look like they are exclusive to the Kiadians, tracking AI is Ugnari.

Likewise Mortalens have vectoring engines, Sluken have thrust engines, Ikkarus have repair bots.

It's a big step in the right direction, we need more race specific tech and eventually (maybe Distant Worlds 2) we'll have completely unique tech trees for each race.

I have to say though, this is probably more than I hoped for at this stage.

Can´t wait! Is there a beta to test? I won´t charge for that, really!

Anyway, looks like most of my major complaints will be adressed, and then a boatload of new features are coming available, too.

We'll know more this upcoming week.
For now, we must endure Erik mercilessly teasing us with screenshots.
I think he enjoys it.

Looks like some good UI additions, but overall seems more like patch-changes than full expansion stuff, i look forward to the full features list next week :)
