Took 'Dixie' Dog for a walk before dark, and looks like rain building-up in the mountains there, will have to do rainy inside things tomorrow methinks.

What an idyllic looking town, Dez.

Nice looking place.

I have some mountains like that near me. Well by near me I mean 1,000 mile west of me.
Here in the Delta we don't even have hills to speak of.

This has been a very full week.  I can't tell you how glad I will be to put my feet up tonight and watch a hockey game on TV with a cold beer.

Man I hear you ! Tough week.

We had another skunk vs. schnauzer episode early this morning...

The brave boy dog took on the skunk, and suffered the consequences... the girl dog ran off and hid

Dog v. skunk = Kobiyashi Maru test. I don't think anyone wins that.

Like the Kobiyashi Maru, you should cheat your way through it. Instead of using your own, borrow your neighbor's dog to scare off the skunk for example.

Kirk level thinking. I'm appropriately frightened.

Still morning tithe.

Bouncing from hither to yon, but managed to shoehorn in a couple moving days and was in Prattville. So called TOMLABEL in Birmingham and we got together for some beers and foot long burritos. We got one of the waitresses (cutest one, imho) to take a picture with Kelley's phonecam and he's threatening to post it. If he does, don't let him lie to ya. he's the good looking one, I'm the grotty old man in the Team NZ shirt.

I've worked with Kelley for darn near two years, and it was a thrill to actually meet the man and chat. Will soon get my poopie together on the exquisite Eastern Shore of bee-you-tee-full Mobile Bay, and am planning excursions to annoy and irritate some of the rest of you; Mike, Don Bowen, Ian the Elf - people I know only through text, but want to get to know well enough so that they buy the beer. Texas and NC are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Mobile, so ya'll get the spare bedroom ready and stock up the reefer.

Ciao. John

I think this might be an official "Hurricane John" warning.

We're always ready in NC!

(Well, unless we're on the road for a hockey tournament )

Evening tithe...

Stood in the locker room this morning, when the fellow next to me takes his socks off. I notice out of the corner of my eye that there's something "off" about his left foot, so trying not to look as though I'm looking, I look again.

It must have taken my brain nearly 30 seconds to make the connection: his left big toe had been amputated. That's not something you expect to see early on a Friday morning in November.

I hope you didn't whip off your sock and show off your "T-bomb"

My mom was in a car accident many years ago and lost both big toes to frostbite. I might not have even noticed.

What a pretty place!

Indeed! I can see why they are called the Alps.

Yeah, they've got mountains over 14,000' on South Island. I have long wanted to go there, but haven't had the money or time yet...

I have to day that doesn't look like an awful lot of snow up there for this late in the spring. Drought year?

Morning Guys, yes it is a nice place to live.

I think that all places in this world that I've visited, have some form of beauty of there own.

Brad, That line of mountains to the northwest that you can see, are really the foothills for the Southern Alps. They normally lose all there snow later in the sumer, but because we had a warm spring most of the snow has gone already.

Post-work TTIF tithe.

Narrowly escaped another "couple of hours" weekend at work. The hardware was not delivered.

Des, how many hours are you off of Zulu? I'm trying to figure out just how freaking early you get up.

Hi Mike, we are UTC 12 + 1 (daylight saving) here. I went to bed at 0300, and got up at 1030.

Got it.  Now that you're on Daylight Savings Time, and we're off, you are 11 hours ahead of me on the US East Coast.

Edit: No, I can't add (or subtract) You're 16 hours ahead of me. I was estimating around 12 hours difference, which is why I thought you were getting up around 0400.

Gotcha.  I have to realize that you live on the dry side of the mountains and so your foothills will have less snow than that narrow band of them on the we(s)t side. Here on the wet side of the Cascades we usually see the snow stick around  at 4000' until mid-June. If I go over to the dry side the snow is gone much earlier.   I am correct in believing that the west side of you southern alps is the rain forest side, right?

There's one bar on Bourbon Street that I really like, Fritzel's. It's the only one that seems to regularly have real jazz. Have you checked that one out?
