Evening tithe...

Stood in the locker room this morning, when the fellow next to me takes his socks off. I notice out of the corner of my eye that there's something "off" about his left foot, so trying not to look as though I'm looking, I look again.

It must have taken my brain nearly 30 seconds to make the connection: his left big toe had been amputated. That's not something you expect to see early on a Friday morning in November.

You do realize how utterly ironic it is that you were the one to run into the guy missing a big toe...

Well, no kidding...

Gotcha.  I have to realize that you live on the dry side of the mountains and so your foothills will have less snow than that narrow band of them on the we(s)t side. Here on the wet side of the Cascades we usually see the snow stick around  at 4000' until mid-June. If I go over to the dry side the snow is gone much earlier.   I am correct in believing that the west side of you southern alps is the rain forest side, right?

Yep, you got it, west-side wet, very wet, in fact they have the highest rainfall in NZ. While the east-side is normally the dry side, but if a big rain front does get over the Alps intact, we normally get flooding and lose bridges.

Has anybody else ever noticed that the more numerous and varied the available forms of entertainment on offer, the less appealing they become individually? It's like there's a finite amount of entertainment value in the universe, and the more potential outlets for it, the less entertaining they can be...

The weekend is getting close.....I can smell it.....smells like.....rum!

Hey rummy...

Before too long, will there be a turn 'flipping' in your immediate future this weekend? Just sayin'.

Indeed, and sadly for you bad guys, before I start the rum flowing.

I wish I had some Rum, What is your favorite Rum to drink Mike?

Joe, I really like Cap. Morgan's when I have to buy it in the States, but when I can get it (like in the Turks) my absolute favorite is Rhum Barbancourt - 15 year.

I've sure observed this with regards to television. We have several hundred channels on our digital cable system, and I ignore all but about 10 of them.

As for computer games (AE), books, sports, model railroads, traveling, etc, I have way too little time to use up any of their entertainment value.

My favorite is Lamb's, but it is hard to find around here. Second best is Pusser's, IMO - I've never had Barbancourt. If it is adulterated like Cap. Morgan's I won't like it. Why ruin your rum with the extraneous spices?

Nope, no spices added (or very minimal anyway) but it's awesome flavor comes from being distilled directly from sugar cane instead of any derivatives. It's Haitian and they took some damage during the earthquake there. I've heard they lost around 50% of the stock that was aging, so the really good stuff may be very hard to find, even in the Turks for several years.

For mass media I'd agree. However, AE belies any such theoretical application. In a world of cookie-cutter computer entertainment, it is golden. The franchise is unparalleled entertainment value...

There's one of those bottles on my counter right now. It's almost time to pour something from it...

Still morning tithe.

Bouncing from hither to yon, but managed to shoehorn in a couple moving days and was in Prattville. So called TOMLABEL in Birmingham and we got together for some beers and foot long burritos. We got one of the waitresses (cutest one, imho) to take a picture with Kelley's phonecam and he's threatening to post it. If he does, don't let him lie to ya. he's the good looking one, I'm the grotty old man in the Team NZ shirt.

I've worked with Kelley for darn near two years, and it was a thrill to actually meet the man and chat. Will soon get my poopie together on the exquisite Eastern Shore of bee-you-tee-full Mobile Bay, and am planning excursions to annoy and irritate some of the rest of you; Mike, Don Bowen, Ian the Elf - people I know only through text, but want to get to know well enough so that they buy the beer. Texas and NC are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Mobile, so ya'll get the spare bedroom ready and stock up the reefer.

Ciao. John

Yes, got to finally meet John in person after all of these years! It was definitely a highlight in the AE life and personally as well! After all, it was John who called me to join the AE team and it was a very great and informative experience from Day1!!!

I must say it was fascinating and interesting to get to talk to JWE about some of the behind-the-scenes stuff concerning AE as well as our backgrounds. We were actually working with the B1-B project at Wright-Patt (sytems project office) at the same time - same building!

Very enlightening! I appreciate him driving up from the Montgomery area to meet me for dinner Thursday night, because he then had to drive the 1.5 hours back that night and then haul all of his stuff down to his new place on the bay of Mobile (right across from BB60)! What a lucky guy!!! Hope to get to take him out on one of the annual Blue Marlin events in the spring and to hit all the great seafood restaurants!! What a blast! I'm excited that he is in my "home-town" as I will be calling him up often!

Sorry for the poor quality as it was taken from an old camera phone!

(This takes place after setting up installation date for the caller’s service.)

Operator: “Now, do you have any pets or animals that we need the technician to know about?”

Caller: “Nah, he’ll be alright. I’ll just tie my kids up in the back-yard.”
