The set is released - See attachment for download. Information is in the readme file. This includes - All ships and all bases replace the original family0 (Human shipset) by Battlestar Galactica Colonial ships and bases.
All ships are at 500*500 pixels (Ingame ships range from 100*100 to 300*300 for bases), all ships can be very large and still be very detailed. If there is a request I'll resize them to a smaller size.
Have fun, coming up next is a Star Trek Federation set
Rename the BSG Shipset.zip to BSG Shipset.rar and open it with winrar if you are having problems opening the file.
Has some very good top down pics of many Star Trek universe/race ships.

What effect would begging have?
Must have now....
Actually, I would like to have the full set though, so I could wait if I know more goodies are on the way. But yes I would very much like the set when it is done.

Don't worry, you won't have to wait too long anymore, im doing the stations right now, and after that the medium/small freighter and the gas mining ship.
And cant wait for the Eve ships, might do a Star Trek theme after this BSG set.

Awesome! I will include this set in my next game. Also looking forward to your ST set. Thanks for the hard work.
EDIT: I couldn't open the file that I downloaded. Is anyone else having this problem?

The file is actually a .rar and not a .zip file. Rename it to <filename>.rar and use winrar to open it...
Just one tiny thing: In your readme, you say to overwrite the original ship files. However, they also work installing them as a theme (I just tried it), which does not touch the original files and doesn't need a backup, as deleting the folder in the Customization folder will revert to the original files, as will simply reverting to the default theme.
In your Distant Worlds folder, there is a folder called Customization. Open it, and make a new folder, call it anything you want, My Mod for example.
In the My Mod folder, make another folder called:
shipImages
Put the family0 folder in there.
From the game's main screen, Change Theme, check My Mod. That's all there is to it.
Better instructions are in the Customization Guide from the Matrix downloads page.

Thanks, I thought that only worked for theming changed .txt files from the main folder. Guess I'll have to reread the Customization guide again. :)

When you get around to it, Klingon and Romulan sets would be cool. In the meantime I'm still trying to learn Wings3D, but it's going to be a while before I get anywhere near proficient with it.
Noob question: Is there a way to choose which shipset to use when you choose your race, or do you have to choose human to use this shipset?
The races.txt is what controls shipset usage, if you look in there you will see each of the races choose one of the 9 families (family 0-8) for their ships, with the remains familes being used by pirates etc. If you want to have one race only use a shipset then just edit the file. Also be sure you edit a copy of this file and move it to your custom theme or it will just get wiped anytime an update changes it.

I might build upon the Federation set, and progress to a whole Star Trek set. All in due time though. ;)
That looks SHARP! Thank you! That looks really sharp!

I might work on one, but if it is purely based on the reimagined series then what ships can we base things on?
Fighter = Raider Bomber = Heavy Raider?
Escort + Frigate = ?
Cruiser + Capital = Base Star
Star Bases = Resurrection Hubs or the Ship at the end of the series?
There are just so many gaps it seems like someone would have to do a lot of messing around in photoshop to invent some stuff.
I edited my fighters after testing as escorts etc. Realised cause they were 500 x 500 they were losing engines after scaling however they still have lights on the bomber even though there is no pure yellow anywhere on it. Weird.

Nice job with those fighters Haree. I've noticed that if you scale something up/larger with your image program, then it can result in anomolous running lights popping up. Scaling images down doesn't seem to be a problem.
Ok something wierd, I found out that yellow with transparency still meant there was a light visible in game. So some pixels on that Raptor are the same as pure yellow slightly transparent, god knows how I am meant to find which pixels.

Sometimes, it's best to start over. Try to avoid scaling the image larger after importing it into your image program.
Well I tried starting again and I get the same problem, random lights. I also tried erasing the lights from the Galactica picture in Gimp and saving it and one of the lights stays there. It must be something to do with keeping the colour number for that pixel but just having a transparency so Distant Worlds is just checking colour number and ignoring transparency. Not sure how I'm supposed to sort that using Gimp.
That's strange. Of course, starting again can produce the exact same results if you did the same thing again. Try adjusting the colour slightly and you can even try scaling the ship down a little bit.
