the 12th Ku S-1 which must either be a carrier capable IJA daitai or perhaps fighters operating from Tanna?

I'd go with the former-operating off of a CVE attached to the CV force.

Oz: Bettys attacked the ground troops at Cairns. The airfield would be an obvious target but the attack on ground troops seems curious. Either it is an intentional misdirection or a Jap commander with too much espresso or a preparatory attack for a landing in Queensland.

recon bombing I'd say ;)

Stalker Girl and I threw a Halloween party this year. She has this geeky porcelain Halloween village collection she likes to set out. I like it because I invite my son who brings all the hot 20 something girls in revealing costumes......oh wait.....that sounds lecherous doesn't it? Ah, what the Hell, who am I trying to kid, it IS lecherous.

I was a Club Gitmo all-expenses-paid guest of the US Govmt. in an orange jumpsuit and beard and turban. A real badd azz Al Quaeda type....U'liqqa M'dik.

My son said, "Hey Dad, that's pretty cool, did you dye your chest hair grey"? I was a little mad at him till one of his friends came up and said, "Hi Mr. Mandrake, thanks for inviting me." She was dressed a mermaid, bare to the waist with a single seashell tied over each breast. Madre de Dios! I had to keep telling myself, "focus, don't look at the headlights".

We served Omaha Steaks, thin sliced with tatziki sauce and horesradish. It was a hit. Stalker Gril got plastered. I had to go to sleep about 12:45 and just left all the hard cores downstairs. In the morning, I was picking stuff up and found a single, breast-sized seashell on the floor. I wish I could have been there to help.

Holy crap! You are right! She IS good. I'm going over there at lunch and see what she thinks about the Japs invading Fiji or Queensland and whether I should send the carriers close to Port Moresby. Maybe Admiral Lord Sprior will split the fees with me.

Hey..it could be one of those Hollywood sham marriages.

There is an historic building in "Old Town" Orange, CA called "The Fruit Exchange". It used to be some kind of wholesale produce sales exchange for citrus fruits. It appears unused now but it would seem to be the perfect place for a gay bar. You wouldn't even have to change the sign.

***********Sacred Temple, slope of volcano, Tanna, Is, New Hebrides, June 12, 1942************

A High Priest in grass skirt and white face mask adorned with two black circles around the eyes chants rhythmically.

"Ugaboogah Silas McGoo bring big boxes with Spam and iron cook things.....Ugaboogah Silas McGoo bring big boxes with Spam and iron cook things...Ugaboogah..."

He walks with a wide-based gait, hands outstretched and purposely bumps into obstacle after obstacle. With every "accident" the worshipers chant "OUCH!".............

Young Moondawggie has identified the key features of a "Cargo Cult" and young Scott_USN has made a clever analogy to a contemporary belief system with many Cargo Cult features.

Interestingly, Tanna Is. was ground zero for one of the nost famous cargo cults.

The LYB's are definitely up to something. Given the speed of advance they may have transports with them or it could just be a shipping raid. I had a group of 10-12 AK's unloading cargo at Suva. I probably should have tried to get them out last turn...too late now.

The hemorrhage of Bettys was a big victory. Suva fighter strength is too low, but of course, there aren't enough fighters to go around. P-40E's from Samoa can reach but not the B model.

Both bases on Fiji are well protected and can mutually spport each other. If they mean to land, they could at Gau or Kandavu and try to build up. That sounds dicey to me.

2 US and one RN carrier are south of Brisbane, well out of position. Yorktown is ready at Pearl and Formidable could be ready in 3-4 d if I pull her out of drydock with some minor damage remaining. Wasp has pushed off from Panama.

We could therefore unite 3 US carriers and 2 RN carriers in about 10-14 d with Wasp to follow,

******38th Brigade HQ, Winnipeg, June 12, 1942*********

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: <looks up from work> Ah, Cpt., good. I want you to take some men and get up to Albert Beach. Mrs. Witherspoon reported a possible Jap landing.

Cpt. Powell: Again, sir?

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: Yes, again. Any questions?

Cpt. Powell: I'm sorry sir, it's just that it's a lake. The boys are wondering how the Japs would get to Lake Winnepeg.

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: Goddamnit Capt., how the Hell should I know. What about that river that goes North, what's it called?

Cpt. Powell: Ah, the Nelson sir, but it's not navigable and it drains into the key anyway.

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: The key?

Cpt. Powell: Yes sir, the big grey thing where Hudson Bay used to be.

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: Look, Powell, she said she saw footprints.

Cpt. Powell: Footprints, sir?

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: Yes footprints, in the sand.

Cpt. Powell: But that could be anybody sir.

Lt. Col. Elster, CO: Goddamnit to Hell, Powell, she said they were really small, are you happy now? ..Don't answer that. Look, she is the mayor's sister-in-law. Just go up there and nose around a bit and reassure her. Now get the Hell out of here. <has second thoughts> I'm sorry, Powell, we all want to get into the fight but there aren't enough political points, OK? Your boys will just have to be patient...........

I finally opened the letter from the State of California after it stared at me all weekend. It was a refund.

The Feds want another 2 grand..useless racemose parasites.

I went to Disneyland this weekend. Would you believe the Tiki Room is still open? It is hilariously politically incorrect. There is a Mexican McCaw who says "welcome to the cho seeenor". I actually heard the hispanic woman next to me gasp in horror. That alone was worth the price of admission.

I closed my eyes like a teenage girl on the Splash Mountain log ride and it got caught on the automatic camera.....bloody embarrassing*

*Edited to clarify what a "log ride" was

This post is hilarious about 4 different times!

Not in this AAR.

We could get by on less "filler" if we could just get the turns back from Admirar Rord Nerson.

Speaking of "filler", I have often wondered, how much do you have to weigh to be considered a "large animal vet"?

Well, I'm told by a very reliable source that 99 pounds and a slip of paper in a frame can get you qualified, but you would have to be "full of it."

In a sense, yes. Lots of animals serve, Lord Admiral Sprior. Mules and horses would be amongst the larger animals represented, I'd imagine, in the US Army. Elephants are probably still used in the Myanmar or Thai armies. Many more dogs (sniffer, guard, patrol, etc.) represented in our army. Some of the veterinarians that accompanied Gulf War I's liberation of Kuwait found themselves busily taking care of abandoned lions and the like at the zoo.

It's a man's life in the USA Veterinary Corps.

My grand-father-in-law was a USA Veterinarian with the Cavalry in WWI.
