I would say that the Russian civil war was "special" for that time. But maybe it's all subjective.

Black Friday tithe.

Needless to say I am not leaving the house today.

Off to make eggs benedict for the wife with a nice prosecco.

I would say that the Russian civil war was "special" for that time. But maybe it's all subjective.

The Russian civil war was a gigantic dog's breakfast. Dozens of factions, scores of ideologies, an entire Nation with every socio-economic class in turmoil. Chaos ! And chaos squared ! Notwithstanding all the ideological nonsense, everyone in the conflict was Russian. That's what made it so hard, and made it so bloody. Once the monarchy was gone, what did it mean to be a Russian? And just what the heck is that entity called Russia, anyway. Woof !!

I think a good chunk of the problem was that there were plenty of groups which were not Russian and quite a few which separated themselves from being Russian. Kossaks and western ukranians are the most ready examples. And that's not counting the various groups and sundry opportunstic bands with no ideology at all. Fun times.

Yes I do, all the way up to 15, sometimes 18 if I concentrate really hard.

Oh Jeez. Totally sorry. Forgot that seriosity was toe-tally suspect on the THREAD. My bad.

Returning to thread things, Walmart has some "wicked good" specials on HDTVs. They got a black Friday special on a Sony/Visio plasma, 52", 1080p, for $598. Woof !! Gonna hit the local Walmart on sucker Saturday and see what the elephant herd left, and what Walmart marked it down to, to move it out. Hey, I'm thinking Auburn/Oregon or the super bowl, with a crown roast, haricot vert, pommes roti, salade caesar, and a big Motha HDTV. Hoo, Doggie, I LIKE Alabama.

I suspect there aren't too many ladies in your neck of the woods wearing what your avatar is wearing, at least not outside.

Hi all,

I bought the game because I don't know very much about the Russian Civil War. A well-designed strategy game is a good way to learn history (better than most lay-people believe).

Very true. I faced the same issue a while back and went on an 8 month reading binge. Walked away thinking it really sucked on both sides. The Whites however struck me as more depressing. Some sort of weird mix of lost glory and the worst sides if human nature coming out in very ugly ways.

Brother Onime, have you seen the recent Russian movie "Admiral"?

Yes. More Russians trying to be Hollywood. I love how they try to portray him as an innocent victim of circumstance. Having said that, I do think that he had the nation's best interests in mind (after his own lights of course).
