So he didn't have much to do with the workers then?

That depends.....is a chief a worker in the RN? (Not in the USN) It seems as though he couldn't say enough good about chiefs.

Not surprising. The RN, like the USN can name anything anything. And the RN never did have a naming procedure (BB=State , CA+CL+ACR=City,DD=Person,SS=Fish or number).

Also, after about 10-15 years of absolute crap, my faith in the ability of post-Soviet nations to make movies about WW2 has finally been restored.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj96Ahlcak0&feature=related

I dont know if it is possible to get it with subtitles, but if you have the chance I highly recommend it. No politicizing or moralizing, just the real, terrible, awful reality of war. The story is all absolutely true, down to every single episode. My father was a tour guide there in his younger days and has told me many things that he himself, and other staff, learned in speaking with the survivors. He met the hero of the story as well.

My hat's off to the film makers at Belarusfilm.

The class names of boats proceed in alphabetical order (mostly) like classes of destroyers used to. So we had Resolution, Superb, Trafalgar, Unseen, Victorious and the not-very Astute.

Victorious was always a capital ship name in the RN. Of course nowadays, an SSBN is very much a capital ship.

Morning, dudes. Too bad about Leslie Nielson. I trust the USC Trojan marching band will perform at his funeral by marching over his gravesite?

Followed by a steamroller and an elephant.

Apparently the French were slightly upset that the RN sank their fleet

Yes, one can understand why they were so upset. I mean, the temerity of the English-ensuring that their fleet wasn't handed over to Hitler!

My understanding is that the French fleet was rusting and falling apart at Oran, that the ships were undermanned, and there was not the facilities at Oran to maintain fleet units of that size. If the fleet had remained at Oran for any length of time, it would probably have not been able to leave. Churchill basically admits that he was aware of this in his books, but he was counciled by Pound and Cunningham to strike.

Edit; I think sometimes that the British don't really like the French.

Take the Olympic Games for example; the English only put a bid in to hold them, because they heard the French were going to bid.

Elephant would be OK, but as anybody knows, you can't out-run a steamroller.

I looked at the calendar when I got to the office this morning, and there are only 3 weeks remaining until my Christmas vacation starts.

Unfortunately, I have about 8 weeks of work to get done in that time.

But Mike it is well known that an American can work three-times as fast as the rest of us, so you will have extra time up your sleeve then Mate.

If it's the film I'm thinking of, not much (pseudo Hollywood bs).

There was a movie called Storm Gates (Grozoviye Vorota) about Chechnia that was quite good.

I did set that up on my Mac but I refuse to defile that gorgeous keyboard with those silly stickers with Cyrillic letters on em. Luckily I kept the keyboard from the pc.

His life story was an interesting one. A classic story of boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl dies in tragic blimp accident. Good Year? The best.
