The patch allegedly fixes the ground radar bug and that is a biggie. However, as best I can tell, it does not fix the search arc problem. Mostly it is correctling the tower armor, some weapons corrections and adding the correct planes for various CV air groups received as mid to late war reinforcements and the like. It is said to be a comprehensive patch.

The Fireflies didn't carry a lot of shells, but when facing IJA armor, they could get "2-for-1", by shooting through the guy in front, and getting the tank behind as well, thus conserving ammo!

June 16th 1942. (I think)

Today the coarse fishing season opens. Oh to be fishing for a few tench in the pond.

Anway, once more JJ refuses to attack the redoubt that is Katherine. Me thinks 'tis time to beat an orderly retreat toward David Tennant. or Fawlty Towers. Or somewhere.

Unfortunately, the rafts carrying 2/1 NAOU overturned and the poor bastards were carried away by the salties. Only the CO survived.

so the good Colornel requires 2 supplies a day? the LYB's probably scoff at such luxorious extravagance...better send word to the air supply transport boys there's an emergency resupply operation brewing in about 6 days...

It's 2 per month. Still rather decadent I'd say, cocktail bars should only be for captains and above. What will come of the world if every lowly LTC has one.

Old Chap, the supply requirements hardly seem extravagant: One unit to support the CO, and one unit for his batman, aide-de-camp, personal cook, laundress, diarist, and chauffeur.

After all, when one is a Colonel in his Majesty's armed forces, it's only reasonable to expect said armed forces to provide a staff to take care of the humdrum day-to-day details of life, so that one's keen intellect can focus on devising cunning solutions for tactical problems such as employing static artillery pieces in dynamic amphibious opposed river crossings...

I say, JJ may demand that field-grade officers shoulder their own packs and unfurl their own bedrolls, but look where that has gotten them so far! :-]

I'd think he would be demoted after losing his complete command.

(Or actually, I misinterpreted his rank)

Now now, let's not jump to conclusions, mate. The command may not be lost so much as 'misplaced'.

Probably too many Darwin Antipersonnel Bombs....or merely the proximity to all the USN evacuees from Manila for those 2 months in Darwin.

Poor bastard, he'll never get it back either. It's gone for good.

In any other army that would be excusable in such a strenuous combat environment.

Maybe, but we try not to let standards slip.

Having to routinely use both spelling standards, objectively, I prefer Webster's to Oxford's....But I understand the British nor Australian Armies are likely to soon accept my recommendations. The do not seem interested in my war against unneccesary vowels.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: <presses intercom> Master Sargeant, are those check-WAYS for Australian I Corps up at Katherine ready?

Master Sargeant: The what sir?

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: The check-WAYS, Sargeant!

Master Sargeant: I'm sorry sir, did you say "Check-WAYS"?

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: Yes, yes, the check-WAYS! The things they get paid with.

Master Sargeant: Ohhh. Yes, I see sir. I think you mean "checks". The "u" is silent.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: Why is that Sargeant?

Master Sargeant: Beats me sir.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: But that's stupid.

Master Sargeant: I suppose you could say that, sir.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: I just did.

Master Sargeant: Yes, sir. Indeed you did.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: They don't say "Keen" when they mean "Queen" do they? The "u" isn't silent there.

Master Sargeant: No sir, it isn't.

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: Well, they should give us some Goddamned translators then. See to it.

Master Sargeant: Yes sir. Translators for?

Utterly Worthless Officer Relegated to His Position in Order to Prevent the Absolute Catastrophe that Would Befall Any Troops Under His Command in Battle: American to Austrian, Goddmanit! Do I have to do everything around here?

On my trip to Florida, one of the Chicagoans adavanced a theory that might explain why Eastern Command is actually West of Southwest Pacific Command. Now, keep in mind, this is HIS theory not mine and even his own wife thought he was full of manure. In his defence, though, he is Sicilian.

It goes something like this..."if you head East long enough, at some point you have to be going West, right. After all, if you head North far enough you will be going South, right"?
