Hello everybody,

I was desperatly looking for a good management game, with no success... then I heard about Distant World. I started playing 3 days ago, read almost the whole forum threads (expansion pack! do want!), but a few question remains in my mind for which I found no answers.

Let's go:

1. Is Galaxy's demand general? Only for known empires? Independants? Or only empires which I have free market with? I guess Independants always have Free Market open?

2. What happens if I mine a ressource more than Galaxy's demand? Will it fill my cargo, but will never be able to sell the ressource?

3. Is it possible to move ressources from a mining station to a spaceport in huge quantities. Indeed I seen freighters load only 5% of its capacity, and do the trip again and again, instead of loading 100% once.

4. I had a faraway space spacestation, I tried to construct a ship from its docks. Cargo was reserved, but I seen only one private ship do the trip. Was it too far away, not interesting for trade?

5. "Barren Rock Moon, 28.6K". What is that number for? Is it the value of the planet based on its total ressources current's prices?

6. "Steel 31% / Gold 28% / Lead 62%", what are the percentage for? Total isn't 100%. When I'm on a colony, I can see the quantity for each ressources, is this possible for other planets too?

7. What is the Capital planet used for?

8. My capital has 11987M population, 1199K value, 100% culture, 41% (77K) taxes, 91% compliance, 205K GDP (17% corruption). How are all those numbers calculated, affected?

9. If a merchant picks up luxury ressources at a private mining station, and sells it to a colony's spacioport. Where am I gaining money in the process? Same with independant ships for buying and selling ressources?

10. When fully automated (with or without fleets), my warships won't protect some mining stations from isolated pirates. The station gets shoot to death if I don't give orders (which disable automode). What can I do to prevent that from happening? I read "Engage system targets" in the order, but they won't...

11. Patrols consumes fuel (since ships are moving, they don't use energy collectors). Automode can set an order "waiting at ...", how can I do the same, with ships following the object, ready to fight ennemies?

That's it for now!

Lots of questions, I really hope you, best players, can give good tips to a poor beginner like me ^.^

I guess Independants always have Free Market open?

not shure but im pretty shure galaxy demand is for the entire galaxy, independents, empires, etc.

2. What happens if I mine a ressource more than Galaxy's demand? Will it fill my cargo, but will never be able to sell the ressource?

galaxy demand should change over time, but im pretty shure the resource will eventually be used, you only stock up what you need, otherwise it will sit on the planets or mining stations.

3. Is it possible to move ressources from a mining station to a spaceport in huge quantities. Indeed I seen freighters load only 5% of its capacity, and do the trip again and again, instead of loading 100% once.

i dont think so, the freighters will only load up what you need for the job tho, unless the station dident have all the resource you needed.

4. I had a faraway space spacestation, I tried to construct a ship from its docks. Cargo was reserved, but I seen only one private ship do the trip. Was it too far away, not interesting for trade?

i have seen this before, it seems that space stations that are far away will take a very long time to build because private ships dont seem to travel to them, i had this same problem when repairing world destroyers.

5. "Barren Rock Moon, 28.6K". What is that number for? Is it the value of the planet based on its total ressources current's prices?

thats the size of the moon, nothing more, i think its used to calculate potential max population, but you can colonize rock moons so it dosent mean anything.

6. "Steel 31% / Gold 28% / Lead 62%", what are the percentage for? Total isn't 100%. When I'm on a colony, I can see the quantity for each ressources, is this possible for other planets too?

i think it means.... if you are mining... you will extract 31% steel, 28% gold, and 62% lead... so your cargo will ccontain that much resource, i know it does not equal 100% but i think that implies that the planet is "rich" and it will extract at a faster rate

7. What is the Capital planet used for?

being capitaly... i dont know honestly, it has more population than most other worlds, and its fully developed. so it will be where most of your income comes from

8. My capital has 11987M population, 1199K value, 100% culture, 41% (77K) taxes, 91% compliance, 205K GDP (17% corruption). How are all those numbers calculated, affected?

dunno, magic i guess.

9. If a merchant picks up luxury ressources at a private mining station, and sells it to a colony's spacioport. Where am I gaining money in the process? Same with independant ships for buying and selling ressources?

should be under the trade income.

10. When fully automated (with or without fleets), my warships won't protect some mining stations from isolated pirates. The station gets shoot to death if I don't give orders (which disable automode). What can I do to prevent that from happening? I read "Engage system targets" in the order, but they won't...

dunno, you could try lowering the engagement ratio from 2-1 to something like 1-1 or .5-1 if it will let you, that way you will always throw ships at them even if its not enough to destroy them

11. Patrols consumes fuel (since ships are moving, they don't use energy collectors). Automode can set an order "waiting at ...", how can I do the same, with ships following the object, ready to fight ennemies?

dunno, dont think you can

That's it for now!

Okay, gotcha. :)

Oh right, didn't think about productivity increase. Neat indeed! Too bad there's not a total then, to see how productive a planet is.

Good point, didn't really understood that slider, but I did a few tests, and found a way to protect my systems !

Apparently, fleet have a different behaviour than lone ships :
* I create a fleet with 5 vessels
* I give this fleet order to patrol the "sun"
* All 5 ships separate to guard strategic points
* On pirate attack X ships will jump attack the invader, and the number depends on that slider! So a fleet of 5, with a slider 5:1 will drop down the ennemi in pack. Nice :)

This answers 3 of my questions (and gives a lots of clues on the other questions too)
Thanks a lot.

Anyone else ?

Hmm i can give you realy basic advice ^^ when you have a planet with a lot of people in (like the capital, or independant population) try to keep a very tax in. Like that the polpulation will grow as far faster, it's realy valuable for the long term!
