Check out the ship type. It is a Destroyer, so almost certainly this is just Erik's personal naming system.
I do the same sort of system myself - DDs, CLs, CAs, BBs etc.

now that we can mod up to 23 or so different ship sets for use between the races, will the existing races get new models? or is that just for the benefit of the modders?

Any chance we get a real map size slider, that is.. MAP SIZE, as opposed to MAP DENSITY?

I really would like some huge games, but the fact that even the simpliest engines can cross 1/3 of the galaxy kinda takes my enthusiasm away. I would not mind if the map could be scaled 10 times this big, with systems being much farther apart, forcing you to take tankers with you early game even to reach some neighboring systems.

Questions:

1-How lost fighters/bombers are going to be replaced?
2-Will we be able to place passenger modules on a military ship and direct, a bit, migration (do our own state controlled migration)?

Just booted this game up again last night to play another map, looks like I should hold off a bit and wait for this expansion.

I notice that pirates and monsters can both be set to "none" now. Maybe that was already in a recent patch? I haven't played in a few months. Anyway, that's good news, if it's true.

On pirates: any change in the way they acquire tech? I dimly recall that they always have the same tech our small ships have. Has that changed?

That pic makes me think of Shodan as well. :)

I agree with this 100%!!!! Honestly, I thought it was obvious that it needed to be done.

I also would like to see point defense work against any target (fighter, bomber, missle, etc) in range. I don't think it should be restricted to only if those targets are attacking the ship with the PD. A group of PD ships surrounding a carrier would be cool.

1400 stars are plenty, but I would like them to be more spread out...Right now, it seems like you make contact with all the AI empires in 1 small area.

And within a very short space of time you find you have explored the vast majority of what's out there.

i tend to set AI Races to distant, though that can clump them up. how about a fuel range slider? or for a slight take on it, a hyperspace speed slider? this way you could choose the underpinning speed characterisitcs of your galaxy

Yes, instead of increasing map coordinates (which may incur technical difficulties), decrease effective ranges of everything such that in a 1400 star galaxy a starting ship can't even reach another star system without refueling. Or make this slider dependent. Might spoil the AI though.

Nice suggestions, albeit a little late, I fear. Erik stated that they basically have a gold master version. I would suggest that the wishlist-thread is probably a good place to voice these suggestions. That way your chances of having your voice heard for the next expansion (here is hoping!) after ROTS are the best.

On a personal note, I play on small galaxies, only, and find distances and fuelranges absolutely fine. All a matter of preference, I guess.

I'd also like the choice to have larger galaxies, not just the choice between denser and less-dense galaxies. Presumably that feature isn't in the new expansion, but it would be nice to hear if it were on the development list.

If they add the option to mod weapons and components, changing the hyperdrive speed will mean a large galaxy which I would love to have.

Reducing hyperdrive speed would be a great way to expand the galaxy. It might be difficult to continue advancing the back story when the next exploration point is clear across the galaxy. It would take a pit of planning, like adding more fuel tanks to your exploration ships, to get there.

Okay people: I have only one thing to ask: how is it that yesterday is about the first time I have heard about this update?

Sweet Savannah, this is unbelievable.

Okay, I am like getting images ready for carriers and all sorts of stuff.
22 Families of ships, I hate to say this Igard: but I am going to be reducing the size of your ships to make sure I can get all 22 families in...

I have only one question for Erik: for a fleet micro-manager like me, can I still produce ships one at a time? I do not care really, but I am curious.
This is fantastic.

In Return of the Shakturi, we did adjust the hyperdrive speeds down a bit.

Also, yes it is still easy to build just one ship at a time.

Regards,

- Erik

That should really help slow the game down some (for those of us who love slow games).

Hi guys, I have come back to the forum with the impending release of the expansion. I noticed that the product page has players: 1, so no mplayer yet. Has there been any whispers of having that function added to the game?
