Problems with mouse-performance.

My system:
Windows XP
Pentium IV 3 GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology
2.75 GB RAM
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series 1024 MB
Kaspersky Internet Security

My system exceeds the minimum requirements I guess.

WitE played with the mouse isn't really smooth.
The clicks are very sluggish.
Sometimes I click, hear the clicking sound, but no action follow.
Sometimes you have to click twice before any action occurs.
The game responds to the clicks somehow delayed (click-delay-action).

I have the same problem with WitP:AE. Here I always thought it is an older game, but now I have this uncoordinated clicks (click-time-reaction) even with WitE.

This is not a gamekiller. But if you want quickly access multiple information one way or another adds up the handbrake and it sucks.

Does anyone know a way, to improve the reaction time of the game with the mouse clicks?

I hope I could explain my request granted.

I would suspect some external factors.

Can you try to disable the sounds:

1. Set the them to 0 in pref screen.
and/or
2. Rename sound folder to nosound (or something else)

Another hint would be to disable anti-virus software and see if it helps.

You may also check if you have latest video/sound drivers.

I had the same issue until recent versions, now it's a bit better, but I haven't been able to find any solution to the problem, nor has a solution been found for it on the development forum.

I find slowing down the click from a quick snap to a press and hold gets it done. I hope it does get fixed through.

God bless you dazoline II,

so it is! (Also in WitP:AE).

I didn't know should I report it this way, because actually, it's hard to understand!

Exactly, that's something that annoys and sucks!

Hey Dev's, you designed a hell of a game (gem).
Please find time to fix this!

Most difficult it not the time but to get it replicated.. preferably in debugger.

These mouse problems make the game almost unplayable for me. Not from a gameplay stance but more out of frustration. I shouldn't have to hold and click, keep clicking or any other mouse click combination to have the game functional. For $80 I don't expect problems like this and I'm seriously considering asking for a refund or contesting the charge with my bank. I know the problem will eventually get worked out but I don't feel like waiting several months for the fix. My system meets or exceeds the recommended requirements. This mouse problem should have been fixed before release.

Hi Tevans6220,

What are your system specs? I'm not seeing this issue on our test systems, though it sounds like one of the testers has experienced it.

Regards,

- Erik

I have 2 gigs of Ram, an ATI 3650 with 512 Vram and an AMD 3500+ 2.2 GhZ Cpu. I also have AC97 onboard sound.

I've disabled my antivirus. Disabled the sound by renaming the sound folder. Disabled the onboard sound. All drivers are up to date as is Direct X. OS is WinXP with SP3.

Nothing works. The mouse is still very sluggish and takes several clicks or repeated clicks to move units or make attacks.

I have found that mouseclick -problem disappears when playing in the default window size. In full screen window (1920x1200) the game is sluggish, almost unplayable. Using slow click technique as described above helps, but interestingly it doesn't help to move the mouse over hex and wait a few seconds and then fast click. I guess the GUI thread is somehow busy (maybe not in CPU, but in GPU) , even though nothing seems to be updated in the screen (maybe the screen is still repainted too frequently, causing slugginesh)

Also, when click doesn't cause the expected action, the mouse click sound is still heard. This indicates that the actual click is noticed by the application, but if GUI is busy doing something it forgets to do the actual action.

GUI slugginesh affects everything including menu response time, scrolling, etc. I highlighted the weird thing because no change/animation is visible in the game screen but even menu is still slow. Setting graphics to low quality and sounds off doesn't help at all. Only small window size helps.

This is the single most frustrating problem, and so far the only technical issue I have encountered.

Btw, I have updated video driver.

Hi guys,

Thank you for the info, the development team is working on a fix to improve this or hopefully resolve it entirely. We hope to have that in the first update, pending testing to make sure it works. If any of you are interested in getting a beta version to try out once it's ready, please e-mail me at erikr@matrixgames.com.

Regards,

- Erik

I think I have isolated why the problem exists..at least I can replicate it.

When I click on a unit/stack of units, the game thinks about stuff. During that time, if I click somewhere else, it makes the click noise, but doesnt register the click event.

It may not happen with the first stack or three..but sooner or later, when I click on something I will get that delay. Afterwards, if I just click on the map hexes around, I get the instant response.

Actually, it seems to happen more with stacks then single units..

Yes, beta exe lack MP, partially due to the possible compatibility issues.

For me it seems there is a "sweet spot" to click that works all the time. Click n the hex just to the left of the Movement point remaining icon that pops up in your destination hex.

For nearly $100 for a game you would think that at the very least the UI would function decently. Its too bad that the interface between this seeingly real cool game ( I cant say for sure on how good the GAME actually is) makes it a battle to try to enjoy it. I can't enjoy watching the AI look like its actually drawing a line that looks competitive because the Scwerpunkt is focused on trying to hit the "sweet spot" to get my guys to move or I am trying to figure out the magic combination of key clicks (click an empty hex) that will let me see the rail overlay.

Hi Baelfiin,

Keep in mind that your experience does not mirror that of the vast majority of users. These mouse issues are affecting a minority and we already had a beta fix available within two days of the first reports.

Regards,

- Erik

That happens to me too. Quite a few times it takes more than one mouse click to get the mouses "attention" when I move from one stack to the next. It seems as thought the problem disappears when I deselect unit(s) on the side bar and then select another unit. If on the other hand, I try to select another stack without first deselecting it takes an additional mouse click or two to do select what I wanted.

Now that I think about it and see the concerns posted here, It appears to be something more than me being new to the game and doing something wrong/incorrectly.

Erik
Maybe it seems like I'm criticising the whole game. Please don't take it that way. There is so much good stuff going on in the game that I find it frustrating that something basic like being able to select a unit is a chore. If there is some list to be on to get beta patches please put me on it. I listed what I had to do to get things to work better for me. Maybe we can work together to find a solution. I'm willing to bet that there are more folks out there that are having the same type of problem but just haven't posted about it.

We're working on the mouse problem, and it seems as though we have a good fix for it. Erik's had at least 3 customers test the fix and it worked for them. We should have an official patch out to the public within the next few weeks fixing this problem. In addition, Pavel appears to be making good progress on dealing with the CPU being maxed out, and this could help the performance of the lower end computers. We're sorry that some of you are experiencing these problems and we're working to resolve them as soon as possible.

I have the same issue. At first, I thought there must be some application interfering with WITE but the problem has continued until now in spite of closing everything and rebooting, and such.

Erik, I will email you, I'd like to check out if this beta .exe will improve things.

Erik, I've had the problem since I started testing, so it isn't a new issue. What is new is that the cause could seemingly be pinpointed and that the issue can hopefully be fixed.

Baelfiin: sometimes, things can't be fixed until the cause is found, and as the programmers were all extremely busy during the design process, the fix could not be made until now.

Hi guys,

We have a newer exe that addresses pretty much all the reported performance issues, including the mouse, CPU usage and black screen. It should be a big help for slower systems. We're planning to post it as a public beta tomorrow.

Regards,

- Erik
