The light manual has no page background, so it won't devour an ink cartridge quite as quickly.

Strangely enough, the LIGHT manual (with no background) is bigger in MB than the other

So the 'light manual' would load quicker in the Kindle?.. I loaded them both, and didn't seem to be a difference in font size.. one had more pages than the other...

Big Thanks to Matrix for not doing the Columns 'side by side' style!... nothing sucks more that reading one of those type of manuals on an Itouch or Kindle (if your doing 'landscape') and having to read down the page then go up.. then go down... Much better to just use the full page!

It has been formatted with e-readers in mind, I think. Despite my comments in another thread, this manual at least is fine on my Sony and adjusts nicely to different font sizes.

Glad to hear it, I decided to buy a Sony PRS 650.

How does the manual look on a Kindle? Is it easy to read? Have you tried any conversions, say, using Calibre?

Edit: Okay, I converted pdf to mobi, using Calibre. It came out pretty well, better than what I've seen from other pdfs. I did use the light version of the manual. No need to landscape on the Kindle (the latest Kindle). Images are a little small, but still visible and able to be read. Jumping from chapter to chapter doesn't work, as the first jump sends one far ahead.

Thanks,

Alan

What size Kindle screen are you using btw Alan.

I've never tried Calibre - I simply uploaded the raw PDF from my PC and it looked fine.

I haven't worked out what Mobi is yet!

I'm using a Sony PRS 350 i've buy for this manual.
5" is a little small, but resize fonts work well.

The only problem with the Kindle is that when resizing a PDF the texts doesn't wrap - it just zooms the whole thing. I'm getting by though as the 9.7 shows a whole page well in portrait mode and a tilt to landscape mode zooms everything automatically but requires 3 "page downs" to read a single page.

It's probably too late for this product, but in the future it might be nice to release the manuals in an actual ebook format, or at least as a .doc file so it can be easily converted. I have a standard size Kindle, and would love to be able to use the manual on it, but standard size kindles are very unfriendly to .pdfs. Text flow as stuff gets completlely broken if you try to convert .pdfs away from being a .pdf.

I don't know if the manual text was composed in Word originally and then converted to a .pdf? It might be nice, if possible, to have this released as well!

I have not tried it yet, but the last Kindle patch claimed that it now speaks pdf directly without having to convert the format.

Well, that's why you convert it to mobi. It reads pretty well, the only problem being that footer page numbers are displayed in the actual text. But it's easy to get used to, and the text size and line lengths are pretty standard. The only thing that doesn't work is actually changing the font size.

I'm using the 6" Kindle, the latest one. Not sure how things would look on the bigger-sized Kindle. Calibre is a ebook conversion program. Mobi (*.mobi) is a ebook format that works with the Kindle. Using Calibre, I converted the pdf manual to the mobi format. It reads well. Footer information (in this case, page numbers) are within the text, but it's very readable.

Trying to copy the pdf directly to the Kindle (though I haven't tried this one in particular, assuming that it's no different than other pdfs that I have tried) doesn't work so well. It's just too big. The lines run off the page, so to speak, and you have to nudge the line to read to the end of each line. Not very practicable.
