I had gathered that this game was massive, but didn't really have a true idea of the scale...until now.

I've just started the Road to Minsk scenario and I've been playing my Axis first turn for about an hour and a half (at least an hour)...this is a small 3 turn scenario and it's taking me an hour and more to do my first turn...and I've not finished yet!

Can't believe the scale. I'm wondering if I would ever get to play the full campaign! I saw someone looking for a PBEM and they stated they could do 1 turn a day - I have no idea how someone could do 1 turn in a single day, each day!

Great game and great mechanics by the way...a few minor niggles, but maybe as I play they'll go away. Love the graphics and the interface. The whole thing is pleasing to the eye. Whoever designed the interface (in particular colours) made some great choices.

Judge,

Probably a dumb question, but is it safe to assume you can "save" as your completing your turn? Not sure I could ever get through my own turn in one sitting :)

Yes - I'm not sure about PBEM - I haven't looked into that - but playing against AI you can definitely save during your turn.

Yes, can save mid-turn in both PBEM and vs the AI.

As for the size of the game, RTM covers about 40% of turn 1 in the campaign. So multiply your time by 2.5 to get what it would take for you to complete turn 1 of the campaign.

Yep its quite a game. Theres times I can mull over a turn for hours. Sometimes I sleep over it and wake up with some revelation of the next turn. Wait, this game will get under your skin like no other...

Unlike WITP it is not overwhelming to a 'new' player.. I bought WITP and didn't try it for months, because I really didn't know where to start.. once I started, I did enjoy.. but this game here.. you can jump in pretty quickly..

I definitely want to try the full campaign, but want to make sure I finish the manual and learn all the nuances first!..

Definitely a great game!

Kind of the same problem I had with WITP. I bought it and have never completed a game. I believe it likely is a great game under the hood, just requires so much time invested. My experiences with that game is one reason I'm holding back a bit. With my track record of being an impulse buyer, I'm sure somewhere down the road it will be mine :)

I couldn't agree more!

For me this has been an awesome experience!

There is so much here that is so cutting edge. I probably played the old SPI WitE 4 times from start to finish ( not a small feat!) and to see this evolution so many years later is amazing. There are so many elements in this game which were great ideas from the past, not really feasible but then taken and improved using the computer (friction an an example). The new ideas even better! I waited to download the game and was on it as soon at it was announced. I don't like to learn by investing time in making mistakes and building bad habits so I like to play a few turns, read, reload and get it right. Typhoon is my last non campagn and to be frank I'm having a little trouble, but I won't play less than challanging, again because of the habit thing. The windows based game has made learning this way for me a joy because of how easy it is to go back and forth. I don't think I have ever played a game where the cause and effect has such effect moving each unit. I have played several games now and the different outcomes just from getting better are amazing. You really have to THINK!! The AI for me anyway is putting up a solid fight and has kicked my a@@ more that a few times. I could go on and on and no I'm not being paid. I can only say the info coming out for this game put my expectation level at an impossibly high level. This game has exceeded It.

Its a badass game huh. Bob, Flavio and Peiter are old wargamers and great additions to the team over the last 14 months or so, and they swear by it. Me, I've played wargames since 1969 and its a dream come true...

In WITP you can take your time giving orders and once they are given the subequent turns take only 15 to 30 minutes if you don't have anything major to do.  Orders are persistent until the mission is accomplished or changed.  With WITE, I imagine that you will keep on "counter pushing" each turn.  I guess that's the downside of going to IGOUGO but it also has upsides... ease of play and knowing what exactly is happening, not having to remember your previous orders.  But there are less to do in WITE than WITP.

If you've tried TOAW then that is more tedious that WITE since you fiddle with individual unit's doctine (combat stance and loss tolerance). TOAW also had moster scenarios like WITE that take even longer to resolve.

Wait til you get that first major victory and you'll be smiling big. I know I was. I was punching the air like a football player. It took me about 10 times (more than others it seems) to win a major win against the AI.

And it is cold right now outside my house, not as bad as Soviet winter, but to me it is! 18 degrees/ -8Celsius.

Try starting the grand campaign. I actually ate dinner waiting for the Germans to do thier stuff. Now I am staring at a screen of the entire theatre of ops trying to decide what to do.
