I have just done the Tutorial it is a lot to take in. But i am sure i will get the hang of it.

It takes awhile and there are something's that you have to ignore. I think its best to concentrate on certain parts of the game instead of trying to do everything.

For a beginner, you might be best served by leaving all but one or two areas on full automation...learn those two aspects before opening up more.

Yep, and start with the smallest galaxy and only a few alien races.
