I am uncertain about the applicability of LowG and LowN pilot skills. Does LowG replace GrdB <6000ft? Supplement it? Likewise for LowN and NavB <7000ft.

Thanks,

It replaces the skill.
So a pilots with similar experience and LowN/G skill should be equally effective even if their Naval/Ground skill differs by a high percentage.

Just because I am not sure this was a typo: LowN/G both start at <6k.

Of course, this post from michalelm indicates something different about low level:

quote:

Mission: Bombing
A/c type: DB
(1) Group altitude: 10-15K
A/c are treated as if performing a diving attack
(2) Group altitude: 16-19K
A/c are treated as if performing a glide attack
(3) Group altitude: <1K
A/c are treated as if performing a low level attack

(4) Group altitude: 20+ or 1-9K
A/c are treated as if performing a normal horizontal attack
The attacks are based on altitude flown.
If I had to do it again, I would probably let the player pick an 'attack tactic' which would allow planes to approach target at the group alt but determine the attack alt and bombing type based on the 'attack tactic'.

Diving attacks have a better chance than gliding attacks to make a hit; pilots with good NAVAL_BOMB skills have a better chance. Exit altitude is 1000-4000'.
Glide attacks have a better chance than level bombing but not as good as diving attacks to make a hit, but; again better skilled pilots have a better chance. Exit altitude is 2000-5000'.

[Typo after all that - items 3 & 4]

Does the setting differ then depending on whether you fly a combat mission or do training?

When I set my squads to training below 6k they improve LowN/G skill and not the normal bombing skills.

This from TheElf is what led me to ask:

quote:

Attack bomber functions as:

1. Altitude set <6000, attack altitude is "low level". >6k' they are treated as normal LB at altitude selected.

2. AB flights are split up into pairs (or two pairs against land targets) if low level (doctrinal)

3. Due to the order of combat, the pair bomb target at 100 and then strafe at 100.

4. Strafing by AB adds to flak suppression. Higher SKILL_STRAFE value (70+) increases suppression more.

5. Non-attack Level Bombers bombing at <1000 gain a higher fatigue from the firing Flak.

6. Bombing accuracy for non-attack LB attacking at <6000 with low morale or high disruption is lowered.

7. Bombing accuracy of LB against TF at <7000 is reduced. AB accuracy is increased <6000.

@ Mike Sholl
8. No experience/skill minimum to execute an attack by non-AB planes but the attack impacted as mentioned above.

I read both of these quotes to infer that LowG applies only to specialist planes. These do not seem to suggest that low accuracy is reduced by a mechanism of having GrdB no longer apply. GrdB appears to be controlling for non-AB at all altitudes. But pilots get LowG skill when training at low altitdude. So I'm confused.
