Hello,

I'm considering buying Wite but before I do I'd like to confirm that there are no issues running the game on a 42" widescreen HDTV (desktop resolution is 1280x720). I've had countless problems running war games at this resolution mostly as a result of the text being so small that it renders the game unplayable (Total War, I'm talking to you!) If my resolution isn't supported, does the game at least scale to some other acceptable resolution that doesn't require eagle eyed vision to play?

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Roy

The Wite requires at least 768 of vertical resolution!

But if you connect your HDTV via HDMI to your PC you are not bound only to 720p resolution (i.e. 1280x720)!

You can easily set any resolution your TV accepts (and BTW, the lowest TV resolutions for "HD Ready" are 1024x768 and maximum for "Full HD" 1920x1080)...

BTW, what is your HDTV make and model?

Can you connect your PC to it via HDMI or only via VGA analog cable (in that case with most models the 1366x768 is maximum resolution)?

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

The TV is a cheap Vizio that's a couple years old, a VW42L (HDTV10A)if memory serves. It's currently connected to my PC via HDMI which sounds like a good thing if I understood you correctly. I'm ignorant about the technical aspects but a cursory look at the Win7 screen resolution settings appears to confirm what you said, that the display is capable of 1920x1080 however I didn't try it so I have no idea whether or not it'll work or what the quality will be like. I'm a little worried about the refresh rates since I've had problems with that in the past with other games (current resolution is @60mhz but I seem to recall higher resolutions only resulting in 30mhz refresh rates and headache inducing blurry screens)

My next question is whether or not it's feasible to use these higher resolutions if I'm sitting 4-5ft away (that's subjective, I know.) If the in-game font sizes are adjustable, I don't think I'll have any problems. I wish there was a demo!?

I've been reading AAR's and salivating over screenshots all day. I don't think I can hold out much longer, potential video issues or not!

Regards,
Roy

I have laptop with HDMI and I did connect it to my plasma 42" - it worked just fine!

IMHO the best thing to do is set resolution identical to resolution of your HDTV (i.e. if it is "Full HD" then 1920x1080) and then fire up the WitE and try to check how the fonts look like (with v1.01 you can adjust fonts)!

As for full screen the WitE will use as much space there is on desktop when maximized - so no problem there as well.

The only question is now whether would playing be comfortable for prolonged time at 4-5 feet distance using 42" HDTV as display... perhaps ask fellow users to sher their experience (i.e. if they have tired it)?
