I see the construction battallions the AI puts out repairing spurs of railway that go nowhere.. or repairing track that makes little sense. Is there a way to control or even influence where these battallions work?

In general they do a pretty decent job.. just sometimes I facepalm at the choice and was wondering if I am missing something.

You're not missing anything. They're automated units, if and when they repair railroad to nowhere I pull them back to their HQ (there's a button for it) and put that HQ near a railroad that needs repairing. Works well sofar, albeit a bit... slow.

Ahhhh okay so return to HQ.. then move that HQ somewhere close to an important section of damaged rail!
