Zort (Axis) and I have started a GC ’41-45. He requested two house rules:

1. Soviet army can't all be put in refit right away. (I have no problem with this as refit in the front lines or on the run from the front lines is not really practicable. Also, putting the entire Red Army on refit concedes distribution of needed resources to the AI. I would rather take a more focused approach. Manpower is plentiful in ’41, everything else not necessarily.)
2. If a unit is isolated, it cannot be disbanded. (I think the game mechanism accounts for a percentage of fugitives escaping pockets, as happened. In most cases it’s better to leave speed bumps in place anyway.)
Neither of us has much experience with the game so this will be a learning experience for both of us. Rather than not let Zort see this thread I am posting turns 8 weeks after they have occurred in the game.

Needless to say no Soviet player has much of a plan for Turn 1. It is all reaction to whatever the Axis player has done to you.
I chose not to bundle my AF back into the national reserve, instead I selectively moved some. The majority I left in place to contest as well as they are able. With the post Turn 1 diminished AF attack problem this did not cost me excessive numbers. Once that is changed you might find it expedient to move more of the Red AF out of range of the GAF.

These screen shots are from the start of my Turn 1. All SS after this will be at the end of my term.

Riga means nothing to me so it will be abandoned, the defense of Leningrad does not start this far SW. In fact everything to the W of the Lake Peipus-Pskov line is of no interest to me.

The Western Front is a shambles but Minsk still holds. With limited forces I shall try to reconstruct a front along the Berezina.

Deep and apparently risky drive by AGS. Several possibilities present themselves as potential courses of action. We will see how things turned out in Turn 2.
