Hey guys!

The v7 update with the Quameno shipset is now available for DL.  From now on, with each update there may be tweaks or replacements for ships in some of the previous sets I made, because as I'm sure you've gathered I'm really fussy and not happy with a lot of the ships/bases.  In this update it was just a tiny tweak to make the engine trails on the Mortalen Cruiser look less wussy, for such a beasty ship

I hope you like the Quameno, as with most the sets there are things I want to come back and change at a later date.  The Quameno already had one of the best sets in the game, so I'm sorry if I ruined it for you   There were however some big problems with the original set, many duplicates, big blurry spaceports, even the Capital and Cruiser were the same but with different exhausts.

Enjoy!

Hi Woodman,

I like the latest shipset Quameno. One thing though, the resupply ship is exactly the same as the spaceports. Is this correct?

Another great set WoodMan.

It looks intentional that the resupply ship is the same as the spaceports, it has an engine exhaust. It can make sense, some races might have just fitted some engines onto their spaceport design.

lol, that was just me being incredibly lazy.  For some reason these ships took longer than normal to make and it was the last ship I had left to do

I want to keep the shipset release moving at this fast pace, but when I'm done or along the way as I said I'll fix the little bugs, repeat ships being one of them

Looks great. As I said before, especially the capital and the cruiser models look really nice and unique. Keep 'em coming.

BTW. Just got back from holidays and back to DW. Will try this out tomorrow but I've have couple of questions. I assume there's no problems using this mod with existing saves. The mod just replaces the the original ships and nothing more complicated.
Also, I use custom soundtrack when playing (My Music Theme). The way I understand it, the most simple way to use Diverse worlds and my musics together is to just copy the music files to Diverse worlds customisation folder.
Haven't used any "big" mods before but I think it should work like this.

Cheers guys!

J HG T, I'm not sure about saved games to be honest.  My saves are not compatible with other themes.  So, if I start a game with one theme it will not load under another.  However, Setekh doesn't have this problem, his saves work fine after theme changes.  Also, over 50 people downloaded the previous version of the mod and not one person complained about losing a savegame.  So basically, the answer is just try it, and please let me know what happens

On the same subject, I have a question for Setekh.  How do you change to the new version of the mod.  Do you have the other mod installed, and then install the new one and change theme in game?  I've actually just been renaming the same theme on my computer over and over again, maybe thats whats causing the problem.

All I'm doing is dumping the new ship family into my custom/shipimages folder and then editing my races file to set the new set to the race it was made for. That's it.

JHGT, for your music you need to create a folder called music inside the folder of the theme you want the music to be on, then out the music files in that folder

Ah, okay Set, that means you are never switching themes, perhaps I should just call the mod Diverse Worlds from now on then without the version number, so people will never actually be changing themes, just updating it.

Thanks Woodman. That's how imagined it would work best. I'll probably start using Seths method with different versions. Don't have to mess with un-installing and re-installing the mod every couple of days.

EDIT: Existing saves not working for me with the mod. Music issue worked out fine.
Oh well, it was quite obvious 'cause I had to patch my game and install the diverse worlds after that. No wonder there would be some complications with saves. I was looking for excuse to start new patched game anyway, so no harm done.

One thing I have to say after playing with the new shipsets: The ships look even better ingame. The preview pics on the first page slightly mislead me. The ship models look very sharp and different sizes of engine flares on many ships really add variety to this arsenal of new toys. They are just new pictures but who cares! Shiny new stuff...
Yet again, great work Woodman.

Once again thx for kind comments and downloading the ships guys.

A preview then

I haven't got far into this set yet, did a little last night and now just begun work on them again, but its going very quickly, so maybe tonight, but probably tomorrow night.

Here is the interesting method I'm using to create them. First I went to family8 the blue and yellow ships used by the Haakonish in the default theme. I then took the eraser to each ship that was 150px or bigger through the whole set and erased about half of the ship, creating interesting new shapes. Because using the eraser brush with the mouse is a wobbly affair I cut them in half and flipped them so the ships won't turn out wonky, so this will be a symmetrical set again. Now I'm sticking those shapes together to make ships There was a colour change thrown in too.

The ships are the same colour as the skin of the race that flies them I had planned on making them less high tech looking, but, due to the method I'm using to make them they actually look quite sleek. But its turned out okay, annoying little wasps flying annoying little waspy ships

We have a Capital or Cruiser (probably Cruiser because the image size might be a bit small for a Cap), and the bomber and fighter, which were originally the frigate and escort, but they looked a bit weird in the game, the ships looked a bit too big for wings like that.

I love the choice of colours, WoodMan and this shipset is looking superb! However I have to disagree with you if you don't like making escorts and frigates with wings. Do you mean just for this shipset or all shipsets in general? I think it gives a nice variety of design approaches. Some races may want to design their ships with all weapons pointing forward, in this case a winged design scheme would make sense.

I made the winged designs with the exact same thinking Igard, it gives some character to the set.  At some point I'll switch them back to frigate and escort and post an ingame shot and let you guys decide if they look weird or not

Hey Igard, here is an ingame shot of the current Gizurean military lineup. Do you think the Escort and Frigate look good in there?

I think I know what it is thats making them look odd to me, maybe they need some engines on the back rather than just having the trail come out the curve.

I think the escort and frigates give the set some variety. Frigates and escorts are meant to be fast and agile ships that work in groups to harass and intercept enemies, and protect larger vessels. Looking a bit mean while doing so can't be a bad thing.

I think they look great, but you have to do what you feel is right WoodMan, perhaps an engine for the frigate is a good idea, but I like the escort the way it is. I think the frigate suffers slightly from the ship scaling problem. I don't know  if you're familiar with it, but it's the way DW scales ships based on the amount of transparent pixels in the image. So, because the frigate has less transparent pixels, it looks a bit smaller. If you add an engine detail to it, that should lengthen the image (not canvas size, but the ship's outline) making the number of transparent pixels increase and the ship look bigger.

I've decided to stick with them

Hey everyone. Version 8 of Diverse Worlds is now available on the front page with the new Gizurean shipset. I hope you enjoy!

For this version I had some problems with the random flashing lights bug, so a fair few of the images are infact bitmaps and not the usual .png files. All have been tested and work fine in the game, however these files are larger than .png files. I started up an Empire with a high tech level and expansion set to Old to tes it and I didn't suffer any performance issues, so hopefully neither will anyone else.

Oh and, we have now reached the 200 mark! 200 ships have now been replaced with new images in the Diverse Worlds mod

Cheers guys!

If your hoping for more you are in luck, an unidentified fleet has just been spotted, its now our job to identify them

They do look a bit Boskaraish, but, I have something really special planned for them already, so it can't be them. Here are the races I currently don't already have a style planned for:

Ketarov (I have something in mind, but its too vague to be called a plan)
Atuuk
Naxxilian (I also have a plan for these, but its probably a bit too ambitious)
Wekkarus
Shandar
Sluken (but I don't really want these to be Sluken, something pointier for them)
Ikkuro

Ikkuro or Naxxilian get my vote, but getting any of the above races out of the way would be great as I'm stuck on ideas.

For info, the ambitious Naxx plan is to make their ships look like birds, they are dinosaurs with feathers But I doubt I could make them to be honest.

Ikkuro for me. Though the smallest ship there could well be naxxilian.
