Version 1.1

- Dimmed the Plasma Thunderbolt/Tri-Cobalt Device slightly
- Increased the size of the Maxos Blaster effect
- Added the new Concussion Missile/Photonic Missile effect
- Included my previous attempt at a missile effect in case anyone likes/prefers it. Named, _Torpedo_6.png

This replaces some of the weapons textures in your root Distant Worlds directory so be sure to make a backup first.

It's intended as a Star Trek mod, but really it can be used for any theme. Sorry if some of the torpedoes are harder to see than the original ones. I tried making them appear bigger, but it causes some unusual anomolies.

Just note that I haven't changed any of the beam images. There's really no way that I can figure out to make the beams more 'phaser' like, so I think I'll just leave them as they are.

Installation :-

1.Backup your 'Matrix Games/Distant Worlds/images/effects/weapons' folder
2.Extract the weapons folder into effects folder.

These were created using the images from the hyperspace effects. And a little touch of Romulan ingenuity.

HNY, Ed.

I'd actually just better note that I haven't changed any of the beam images for this.

Couldn't you replace all of the beams with like a torpedo image to create a mod where all beam weapons were like pulse phasers?  The could also be made to look more like the Minmitar weapons.

Edit:

I just replaced beam_0 with one of the engine effects ( you're an inspiration Igard! ).....the result is below:

Those look great, I especially like the bombard screen. Looks like it is breaking through atmosphere.

That's a great idea, Sim. There may be some of the hyperspace effects I haven't used yet that might work also...

I hadn't thought of that, it does look like it's creating a wake around it in the atmosphere. I just figured it could be some kind of sub-space, quantum field, techno-babble disruption surrounding the torpedo.

Been using your torpedos for ages but these are awesome!!

Maybe next you could look at the missile, the default one is a bit boring and needs the Igard treatment

Thank you Gloryseeker.

If you look carefully, you'll see that I added a very slight glow effect to the missile. I was thinking about changing the colour also to make it resemble the missiles from the Starfleet Command series games. It will probably have a red glow with a very long and pointed shape.

Do missiles travel in a straight line or do they home in like torpedoes?  I haven't seen many missiles yet, especially beyond the first tier ones.

I don't think I've seen any late tier missiles either (never felt the need to use them), I don't think they behave any differently and I don't believe they look different either. There's only the one image file for them, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know?

I thought Starfleet torpedo's were oblong. Like the one they used to jettison Spock's body on Genesis. Bones and Spock also 'operated' on an oblong torpedo in the movie "The Undiscovered Country".

They look much better when they've been fired Sim. Go to 6.00 minutes into this video.

Here's how I'd like the missiles to look. I can't do one like this since it really needs an animation to show an ever growing exhaust trail.

This a pretty fuzzy picture, but you get the idea.

Actually when a missile like this tries to turn (they do seek don't they?) it will look rather silly because the exhaust tail needs to curve as the missile changes trajectory.

I'll make one with a much shorter exhaust tail but in the same style.
