I wanted to get a better understanding of the weapons (especially with tech upgrades), so I dumped all their stats into a spreadsheet. This also lets you figure out some useful stats not shown in game, like DPS per size, burst damage per size, energy used per second/Size and energy efficiency, plus there's some funky looking visuals.

There's also an armor selection drop down so that you can see the effects of different armor vs phasers, missiles and what not.

Weapon DPS per size vs shields:

Weapon DPS per size vs reactive armor (second best):

Y axis is weapon DPS per unit of size, X is weapon type and upgrades, while Z is distance from 0-990.

Individual weapon comparisons of the same here: 1 2

About this:
-Weapon DPS is per unit of size, with range 0-990 on the Z-axis
-Just treat this as a baseline. Range is arguably more important than sheer damage in practice.
-This also doesn't take accuracy in to consideration. Beam weapons for example have terrible accuracy at range, while torpedo weapons always hit.
-Range is roughly modeled and gets rounded to the nearest hundred.
-Damage Control components only reduce damage that gets past the reactive rating of armor, and isn't modeled here.
-Modifiers vs armor that railguns, missiles and phasers get are all applied here.

Updated for Legends:

Here's one for the races

This is pretty much races.txt in a sortable and more readable format. It lists everything about the races from their preferred planet type to their troop strength and tech focus.

I'm not sure how to sort in MS office, but in openoffice I have it set up so you can just click on a tile and hit the sort ascending or descending button.

edit: added to top post

Thanks people

I updated the weapons spreadsheet so that you can see how they do against armor, and increased to range data slightly to 990. For example here's how much damage each weapon armor deals against maximum armor:

See attachment for how to set it.

It's added to the first post along with a slightly updated races sheet.

I didn't really want to spoil it. They blow thing up real good though though, believe me

Wow!

If this could be updated for Legends that would be awesome.

I second the notion of updating the tables for Legends!
Is the data mined from the actual components when they are researched in the game?

Or can it be found in a raw text form somewhere in the files?

I plan to do one when I transfer the races to the DW Wiki - as I am also working on other tables from the game and elsewhere...

Finally got around to adding the Legends weapons! Only images right now, I'll upload the rest later.

Weapon DPS per size vs shields:

Weapon DPS per size vs reactive armor (second best):

I zoomed in a little to get a beter picture, the autocannons go to 5.5 or something.

Individual weapon comparisons of the same here: 1 2

About this:
-Just treat this as a baseline. Range is arguably more important than sheer damage in practice, and some things aren't modeled here, like energy use and accuracy.
-Range is roughly modeled and gets rounded to the nearest hundred, so range differences are more dramatic here than they are in game.
-Modifiers vs armor that railguns, missiles and phasers get are all applied here.
-Damage Control components only reduce damage that gets past the reactive rating of armor, so it isn't modeled here.

Anyways there's some interesting stuff here - I didn't realize rail guns got shut down so hard by high tech armor. Also the top tier rail gun looks horrible, does anyone actually use it? I'm a fan of rail guns but I always stop at Heavy Rails personally.

Also I'm going to try missiles and phasers instead of switching to torpedoes early on, looks fun.

Nice! I had intuited that the Torpedo and Starfighter lines seemed to be the best. (DPS/Unit size/range/energy) Looks like I wasn't far off.

That's weird, no idea why imgur would be giving you problems.

Anyway here's the weapons spreadsheet, it has a few extra stats now like burst damage/size and energy efficiency/DPS/size (turns out massive railguns are one of the most efficient weapons in the game if that's any consolation). Images are in the zip too since imgur is being terrible.

Yes, they do work for me. Maybe there's a filetype\filename block by your provider.

Bump for new players to notice. Another factor to consider is weapons cost per unit damage done against maximum armor, in mid to late game. Titan Beams are quite good.
