Hi

Are there any experts out there who know TOAW scenario XML format ?

looking at a XML fragment from a scenario file

<UNIT ID="12" CHARACTERISTICS="40000" ICON="Assault Gun" ...... >

Does anyone know what the CHARACTERISTICS attribute does and its possible values ?

Also does anyone have a complete list of the types of unit "ICON" (i.e. HQ, etc. .....)

All this is in aid of a new Scenario Editor I am slowly working - well more prototyping at this stage
See the screenshot

Maybe if you use the TOAWIII equipment editor you may find some of the information you're looking for. Without it here in front of me I don't know what the characteristics part is unless maybe unit weight? The editor will also show you unit icons.

Tony,

I addressed the request for a code/description of the XML stuff from RT, because I use the .xml file for OOB etc. I think, and it makes sense the characteristics is the role or the special ability of the unit, e.g. engineering, recon, etc.I am not sure, but it would make sense that this number is related to it. Maybe we team up and we can convince RT to give us an index for .xml stuff :)

kLiNk, Oberst

P.S. Could you email or post your beta of your editor? Looks great!

I'll post in the XML thread I just started.

RT's XML definitions as .txt. Needs some 'clean up', but just got up and I was a tad too lazy :D *see attached* The post was garbled, but 'view source code' of the site *using Firefox* did the trick.

Thanks for that info - i had most of the icons figured from the manual - but as for the characterisitics - figuring that out was never going to happen

Cheers

I'd got as far as figuring it out as a bit mask and ...

... after that no chance

Norm did a great job of optimizing the heck out of it to fit into a very small memory footprint.
