I recently downloaded Forge of Freedom v1.2.3 and applied the patch v1.12.2. The Matrix download site doesn't make it clear if that is a comprehensive patch but it does state that patch v.1.10.10 of 4 DEC 2007 is comprehensive. My question is whether I should have applied the v.1.10.10 patch prior to the v1.12.2 patch.

Looks like a very interesting game and I am looking forward to learning and playing it once I get it in the proper patched state.

The most recent patch, from April 2009, is v1.12.2. At some point Matrix redid the "gold master" version, meaning that it patched up the original version so that new owners wouldn't need to patch up. I don't recall just when that was, but it might have been at v.1.10.10. If so, there's no need to install that again, and it may well do harm. What I would advise is:
Install the game and load it up, and in one of the corners of the load screen you will see the version number. If it is 1.10.10, as I suspect, just install the more recent patch; if it's earlier, install both.

Please let us know if there are any problems.

Thank you for your response.

I will confirm that Matrix current download from Plimus is v1.10.10. So new purchasers as myself do not need to apply the 4 Dec 2007 patch of the same name (number).

I have a similar patch upgrade to ravincravin.

I purchased FoF on June 4, and it said version 1.10.10. Finding th most current patch, 1.12.12 , I downloaded it without problem, using my 16 digit code. At the end of this brief installation, the message said "successfully installed."

However, the game windows still says version 1.10.10.

How do I know if the 1.12.12 patch has "caught" even if the version number has not changed to 1.12.12? Should I assume that the original download , after 1/11, conveyed it anyway?

Thanks very much, Gil. If possible, please shoot a copy of your reply to ronsb@msn.com?

On the first loading screen, at the top right, it reads 1.12.2
Just checked the download section for FoF and it shows
Forge of Freedom Update v1.12.2
Posted: 16 APR 2009

as the latest patch.

Thanks, Floyd. I understand that this is the latest patch.

It does download fine, with my 16 character code - and I get a "successful download" message in the end.

But when I open up the game, the main screen still says version 1.10.10. Shouldn't this change to 1.12.12 after the download? That is, how do I know that the download information has even been integrated into the original download?

Hmm just a quick question. YOu say you DOWNLOAD it fine.
Do you also INSTALL it?
Just to be clear as to what might be the problem.

This must be a misunderstanding. With the download you get a 'zip' file: Forge of Freedom-UpdateDR-v1122.zip
This should be 'unzipped' (decompressed) and will end up as: Forge of Freedom-UpdateDR-v1122.exe

Execute the exe-file and enjoy your patched FoF. If you have to re-enter the serial number, there
is a file 'serialreg.txt' in the main FoF program folder with your serial number listed. Copy the number
to clipboard and paste in the popup box when patching.

Ron,
I'll wait to see your response to Floyd. I can't think of a reason why you would be able to patch up but have the old version number showing.

I lost a computer a couple years a go and had to re-download and re-patch and had a similar problem. Eventually I discovered that I had two copies of the game on my hard drive, one patched and one not. The desktop shortcut was pointing at the older version.

I don't quite remember all the details, but I think that the patch created a new copy of everything in the "Matrix Games" folder when it should have overwritten the files in the "FOF" folder.

Thank you guys, you are so kind. I just got back from a vacation with my wife, which explains (some) of my delay.

Here's the deal - I did close all programs, and I did get the usual installation screen.

I then did successfully enter my 16 digit number, and saw the installation process run through.

Starting the game, the same upper right designation 1.10.10 appears.

Interestingly, in my Matrix folder, there is an update.exe folder, dated 10/29/07. Opening this folder,
I entered my ID number and was requested (and granted access) to Matrix Games. The message came through,
"this is the most recent version."

My Interpretation: I have successfully downloaded the most recent version, but my being Windows 78, 64 bit has something to do with its display. Unless you believe I should pursue the issue further, I'll carry on - thankful that I can even play the game in Windows 7!

If you have anything to add, you may reply. Otherwise, I'm good.

Thank you again.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Matrix update system; Matrix does these sorts of things for us.  The version number you see when you run the game is hard-coded into the .exe file, so the version number you're seeing when you run it is the version number you're playing.  You may want to double-check to see whether you have two versions installed.  I'm not sure whether you can apply the patches directly apart from the update system... does anybody know anything about that?

If I understand you Eric, all patches are applied outside system - they are downloaded and when run able to be pointed wherever. As was noted, maybe that's where snafu is - latest patch applied to game located somewhere on system other than one that is being run? A few months back I got a new portable and had to re-install FoF. 1.10.10 was the dl and then I applied the 1.12.2 patch. Shows as 1.12.2.

Like Gil said, I don't see how a game can be showing 1.10.10 and be 1.12.2. I would delete (and make sure no extras) and re-load and apply last patch.
