It's a compilation of AltGraphics that I am using (waiting for new path and alpha graphics...) Most of the things in it are from great moders from this forum, and some - not many - things are modified by me, you must find it for yourself if you like.

Hey - forests, hills and tiles_misc are from my mod's graphics. I can't believe someone is actually still using them. I'm working on new stuff, something brighter, maybe i could call it the last mod before transparency

Yes they're yours. I use them because they're great! Your tiles from tiles_misc (version on the picture) are the best!

Thank you very much. :) although i must say that i'm no more content with my forest terrain tiles. When i created them i still used a CRT monitor, and it looked great. But on a flat screen it's really totally different and simply doesn't look as good. I was most proud of the desert terrain i made (arid, sandy and r_sandy).

Small update for the great 3.4 patch. I think that with the new patch TOAW is very pleasing to the eye.

In the archive you will find some small changes to some files - you must check it yourself if you wish, maybe you will find something that you will like. I don't take any credit for the original files, I made only small changes to the great work of other peoples.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4055585/AltGraphics.rar

(I forgot to add the Hexoutline.png - I'm using the "Hexoutline_OPACITY REDUCED.png", that is in the Graphics folder of 3.4 patch).

Nice job on those graphics. I use a mix of customized graphics, borrowed and tweaked myself.

And here is new counters graphics:

I personally like the old pixelated graphics more, but who knows - maybe someone will like those. It's always good to have a choice.

You can use/modify/share it as you like.

The files in rar archives are in .png format. The counters could be in .bmp, because they don't contain any transparency, but it takes much more space without png compression, so I made them in png.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about those guys. They are connected to the tiles_misc.png (or .bmp) file, so you must copy/paste it to use it with another tiles_misc file.

Here is the original .png file, that I used to make it:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4055585/minen.png

And here is quickly updated tiles_misc.png that I've made for myself:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4055585/tiles_misc.png

I think it looks quite nice, much better for the mines than the biohazard thing:

Speaking for myself (I'm in the minority, most likely), I don't like the new 3.4 default graphics. (I know that 3.4 will give us the option of reverting to the old.) But parts of your AltGraphics compilation are a definite improvement over the old defaults, and I will be working them into my own personal set. Thanks for sharing these bits and pieces!

It does look very nice. I tried to make one myself but I'm no good at it . Can you turn it into a separate .bmp that can be used as an alternate place name thingy ? I tried but failed. That would make it easy for us to use.

For .bmp you can use a version of it contained in the old tiles_misc.bmp from the first post archive: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4055585/H_AltGraphics.rar

It has worse quality, but this is the price for using bmp format.

(Maybe I didn't understood you good - I'm not sure what the "alternate place name thingy" is).

In the AltGraphics Folder there are 'mapOptional' bmp's 1 thru 9. They are placed on the map by assigning them thru the placename. The 9 that are in the folder can be switched to something else, so the minen file you have could be used that way.

I tried saving the minen file as a bmp and putting it in place of the original mapOptional7, but it has the black background and is a little too big so that when I put it on the map by typing '<7' in the placename for the hex, it doesn't look good.

Ah, this thing. Here you have a bmp:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4055585/mapOptional.bmp

It's pixelated, but it must be so if you do not wish to use the png format. I didn't know which color do you wish to have, and if it should be centered or not, so I've made it so as it is. Hope this will help.

Yes, I agree, thank you Huzar dude.

Can either side still enter the hex? If so, what happens when some one does enter the hex? Losses, or ..............?

It's an archive file format, like "zip". You must use winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar393.exe) to open it.

The skull and crossbones is only graphical in my scenario. I also put badlands in the hex so that it would have some effect. I think Mr. Huzar uses it in place of the contaminated hex in his scenario, so it has that effect.

There's also a free program called 7-Zip, which can handle several compression systems

Why not just use a zip file. Then I wouldn't have to download anything else. Or is that too simple?

Best wishes,
Steve

PS: Sorry that sounds more aggressive than I meant it to be. What I was trying to ask was what is the benefit of a rar over a zip?

You wouldn't believe the number of different file extraction programs I've had to get. It's a bit crazy. Someone is sure to come along with yet another.

What someone needs to do is make a utility that can package any and all of these things and any yet to be produced in a graceful and competent manner. And while they're at it they can conquer cancer and bring about world peace.

Well, rar is one of the most popular formats on Windows (with the best compression ratio), together with 7z (which is good, but I don't like it) and old zip (which is just popular and inferior in many ways to other formats). But I understand the irritation, I am irritated when I see the 7z format.

The good thing is - you must install an external program only once, because most of them recognize other formats, so for example with winrar you can unpack also 7z files, and with 7zip you can unpack also rar files.
