Borneo
Zeros have moved in to Kuching, and the 11th Special BF is on its way in. The 22nd Air Flotilla is boarding a FT at Saigon.

Will use CL/DD FT Tf to take the nearby bases once we have more aircraft in Kuching.

While only a level 2 airfield it is more protected from enemy SCTF (remember force Z is out there somewhere...) than Singkawang.

Cheers
Rob

The good news is we protected the TF unloading the 11st Special Baseforce.

They are one hex out in 3 TF limping away. We have a fresh TF at Miri with 2CA, 1CL and 4DD that will try to intercept. We also have 36 Betty at Kuching now... next turn coud be ugly!

But we also detect another SCTF in about the same strat position... more on that later.

Very nice Ambush!

Our CVL hits a couple of AKL, she is almost out of sorties.

We are going to push onto Kendari ASAP now we know where force Z is...

Philippines
We are starting to move out. Looks like they are going to defend at Clark.

The Div at Shanghai is now a third of the way to the Philippines. We are sweeping the mines at HongKong then those forces will also join in.

We want the Philippines ASAP.

Pacific

In location around Wake and about to run in... but KB is deteced by an SOC... so something is in the area... could be interesting turn next turn!

China
No change.

Analysis

We have now accounted for all the enemy's starting CA/CL forces in the DEI area and most of the DD's But we have detected a TF of 8 ships... it could be another SCTF, If it is it may be an Australian CL and some US DD's or more than one Australian CA/CL...

If it is this indicates that they want to fight for Java... and the US CV's may be near. We estimate there are 2 more days before they can be in the DEI area... So while we have accounted for the surface units we need to be careful still.

Overall this is still a moderate Allied victory. A CA for a CA is not a good trade for the Japanese, and three shoddy CLs aren't worth a battlecruiser. On the other hand, their fleet in DEI probably will need some time to lick its wounds.

Yep we agree, no grand celebrations of our "Victory". Getting the Dutch Cl's on the way back was nice, but we were after bigger fish...

The Baby seals did ok :(

Malaya

Once Alor Star is taken we will have a clear rail line to Taiping. The Armour will then push forward to Kuala Lumpur, and the rest will follow.

It looks like they are pulling everything back to Singapore. I may need more force to crack it.

Kuching is the main base. Sinkawang will be used though in a week or so to base Army aircraft out of. The Air HQ in Malaya will then move to Burma.

Forces for Sumatra/Palamebang will concentrate at Kuching.

Reconing Sumatra and Java now to try and work out their dispositions.

Next turn we will FT in a Bn to Mersing, following that the main force of the 56th Div will land. This should cut off their force north.

We have arrived at Taiping chasing a fleeing Bn. It will fall next turn. We will continue to push south... Alor Star is really proving to be a pain :(

DEI
Sinkawang falls, construction troops are a turn away. Lots of shipping moving into Kuching and it is building nicely. Soon the air flotilla HQ will step forward and the Div HQ will move to support the Burma area.

The Kendari invasion force is one hex out.

Philippines
We are closing on Clark with 1200 AV. Another 400 or so is loaded at Hong Kong and on its way. Another 600 AV (4th Div +) is also on its way.

The aim is to decisively crush the Philippines as quickly as possible.

Pacific

Rabaul invasion is poised waiting for KB (which is almost at Truk). So this will start in earnest soon. The KB will then transition to a DEI/North Australia Raid to sink ships....

China
Moving now in earnest...

Lots of attacks, in particular off the West Coast, no hits. They attack but miss an AV heading into Kuching. Thre are 2 AV's there now and their aircraft are conducting ASW.

Malaya/Burma
Troops are moving in towards Alor Star. Another 3-4 days and we will have enough to really hurt them.

We land at Mersing against light opposition. The 3rd Cavalry regiment and 3? other units are there but don't bombard. we have 60AV ashore, with about 300 about to arrive. This should trap 6-9 enemy units out of Singapore. Biggest risk is that they move aircraft in to hit the transports, all available fighters are LRCaping the invasion force.

Off Port Blair we do real good this turn...

G4M1 Betty x 4

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
xAK Silverwillow, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
TK British Destiny
xAK Troja, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires

AMC Manoora is also reported sunk.

DEI
We attack at Beufort but our guys are tired and only get 1:1 odds. We will rest (they are at 90 disruption).

Kendari falls, an air flotilla and air HQ will unload next turn. Zero and Netties will move in.

Philippines
We sweep and do well. They attack our shipping and do badly. They loose around 20-30 aircraft we loose 3-6.

China
We have broken through south of Chengchow. We have a Tank Regiment on the road, with 5 Div following in behind :)

Cheers

China Plans North 20 Dec 1941

The three cities of Chengchow, Loyand and Nanyang are the objectives.

We intend to push through to Nanyang, invest with a blocking force, then turn back and take on the others.

The aim is to push enemy units into the wild or on the minor road to Sian.

Sian may be considered in the future.

As you can see we have just about cleared the approaches to Clark. Manila is held by 1 unit. Everything else is at Clark (26 Units) or Bataan (9 units). We are resting and waiting for the next two divisions to move up...

We are held at Alor Star and south of Kota Bahru, but are running into Mersing in the south.

That small enemy TF north of Mersing is some ML's... not sure what they are doing but may get ru over by a CA TF next turn...

Out of about five attacks off the West Coast one works:

Malaya/Burma
The bulk of our forces land at Mersing right on cue... suckered them nicely :) We shock attack back next turn with all aircraft available providing support. More troops are landing under the cover of 3 CA and 3 CL as well as about 8 DD's

Allied Ships

ML No. 311, Shell hits 7, and is sunk

We attack Alor Star in 3 days, it should fall.

In Burma we are crossing the border... very slowly!

Noticing supply to northern Thailand is very slow under this version of the game... this will slow operations down... a good thing.

DEI
75 Netties and escorts now at Kendari :) Mini KB is on the hunt as well.

The next phase of landing should happen in about 1 week.

Philippines

An undefended Altimonan is taken via air assault. The div from the south can now march into Manila, take it, then join the main effort in attacking Clark. This should give about 5 full strength Japanese divisions....

SWPAC
The ducks are lined up and the Invasion of Rabaul should occur next turn. A 5 DD TF transiting from the DEI past Horn Island runs through our patroling subs... we may get to bag these...

Sub attack near Horn Island at 92,129

Defending units:
3rd Ind.Mixed Brigade

The question on our minds is where are there CV's... I suspect Sydney, and the DD's are transiting that way...

There are several Cl's and DD's detected at Sorebaya.

Strategic thoughts.

I was worried that my tardiness in Malaya would mean that extra forces would be needed to take Singapore. Now it looks like at least 4 bdes are trapped out of Singapore, and another 2 bdes (including the Australian 27th) well trashed. This means the odds are favourable for us to take it ahead of Schedule.

So time to start planning "what next".

Burma is top of our priority. The 33rd Div is about to start unloading at Bangkok. I have also freed up 21st Ind Mixed Bde and it is moving to northern Thailand at the moment. These forces will be reinforced with two Tk Regiments that are at Alor Star and start pushing into southern Burma.

Sumatra is next. Forces are preparing at Kuching and will be ready to launch in about 2 weeks.

Southern Borneo will be taken using 1-2 SNLF currently taking Pakhoi, and 3 smaller units. Starting in about 2 weeks.

Looking longer term we want to "interfere" with India... not a full blown invasion, but Ceylon is tempting, or Cox's Bazaar (Akyab is a given). These would be spoiling attacks. The forces taking Singapore may head that way, or go to Java, freeing the Phillipine forces to go hunting elsewhere... we will make that call when Singapore falls, we will know within a week how we are going in the Philippines...

Their actions at the moment are leading us to the conclusion that they are fleeing hard, and will not commit to Java or Sumatra. A pity as that makes it harder for us. We will probably have to go hunting them to achieve our original strategy...

We notice that there is no action in Suva yet (we have 4 subs in the area) but Auckland goes to a level 6 port. This indicates that they will play it safe and conduct a buildup in NZ... another smart move... sod it.

We don't have specific plans for Fiji or Noumea beyond raids.

We are happy in China, we appear to have caught them and look forward to clearing out what we want, then digging in. We would like to divert forces to Burma to ensure the Chinese are strangled by supply limitations.

We are about to start raiding some interesting places with our CV's...

Cheers

Rob

Figuring out a way to force a CV battle will be key. Invading Fiji early may be one way to do this.

We raid Darwin area :)

Mini KB comes in and attacks some convoys we had previously detected, but bad weather limits the strikes... still fairl effective. Netties from Kendari raid Darwin harbour. They resond with a coupl of enescorted strikes by Blenheims. We detect a lot of ships in Darwin, and a number of convoys to the west. We have several SCTF coming in to sweep, Mini KB and more Nettie raids planned... looks like fun :)

China
We are now at Nanyang with a 400AV div. We will bombard to see what is there then eiether attack or wait. 3 Div are marching into Chengchow from the SW.

We have cleared the road to Sinyang and a large force is almost assembled to push north to Nanyang.

They continue to pull forces out. They may be planning to concentre on the southern flank.

Supply is tight in China and convoys are bringing more in from Japan.

KB is lurking under a cloaking device near a city near you :)

Cheers

I'm personally not too worried about "forcing" a CV action. That is not part of our core plan.. if it happens that would be nice. We are not relying on a single weapon system, or advantage, in our planning. Certainly having superiority makes the planning simpler, but relying on it is not a good thing.

Cheers

Figuring out a way to force a CV battle will be key. Invading Fiji early may be one way to do this.

Our secret mission is delayed another 2 days.

Malaya
The Inf Regt arrives at Alor Star, they will all shock attack next turn. It should fall in a day or two...

In the south we are now in strength in both hexes. Digging in a bit to start with.

At Kuala Lumpur they have moved some units 1 hex to the north, this is anoying as it will delay us when we get there... a good move on their behalf. All they can do is try to delay for as many days as they can...

We airfield bomb Johore Bahru as Singapore is almost closed.

They port attack Mersing with Swordfish...

I have a TF off Mersing (the one that got hit by 1 torp) with more supply. I can't unload as the supply will spoil.

26 Dec 1941,Christmass presents fr the IJA and IJN :)

Subs
Submarine attack near Brisbane at 97,160

Japanese Ships
SS I-18

Allied Ships
xAKL Nevadan, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

We are conducting a fair bit of ASW. Enemy subs are to the east of Miri/Brunei (so we are mainly going west) off Cam Ranh Bay, and north of the Philippines. We are searching for sub actions in the northen resource area, but nothing detected so far. We are also laying defenisve minefields, in the game against Nik and Joe we have lost a number of subs to their minefields.

Burma
After several weeks of preperation, including daily recon patrols, we drop a battalion on Toungoo
:) The aim is to destry the Ameriacn mercenaries orgainising to fight for the Chinese..

Ground combat at Toungoo (57,50)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 412 troops, 8 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 29

Defending force 605 troops, 5 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 7

Japanese adjusted assault: 18

Allied adjusted defense: 3

Japanese assault odds: 6 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Toungoo !!!

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
No Allied losses

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), leaders(-), preparation(-)
fatigue(-), morale(-), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-)

Allied ground losses:
282 casualties reported
Squads: 3 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 25 destroyed, 22 disabled
Engineers: 3 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled)
Units retreated 1

Assaulting units:
Yokosuka 3rd SNLF /1

Defending units:
106th RAF Base Force

The aircraft loss report shows 11 AVG aircraft lost to "ops". So we either got one squadron on the ground (one is flying over Rangoon) or the two Chinese squadron's had moved out , but not all aircraft... either way a great result, the raiders are being pulled out, we may move in some leg infantry...

Over Rangoon we loose one Oscar for an AVG aircraft or two.

The 33rd Div is almost unloaded at Bangkok, elements are being flow in to Tavoy... I like airmobile operations :)

Malaya

Not much to report. Our blocking force isn't being molested yet, and we are moving south as fast as our legs and the rail system allows.

DEI
The enemy come out to play at Sorebaya, about 3 hexes to the NE, intercepting our force...
Night Time Surface Combat, near Soerabaja at 56,101, Range 5,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Kongo, Shell hits 2
CA Atago
CA Suzuya, Shell hits 1
CA Kumano, Shell hits 1
DD Kuroshio, Shell hits 1, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
DD Arashi
DD Shinonome, Shell hits 1
DD Shirakumo
DD Isonami
DD Uranami

Allied Ships
BC Repulse, Shell hits 8, on fire
CL Danae, Shell hits 13, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
CL Dragon, Shell hits 5, heavy fires
DD Alden, Shell hits 1
DD Pope, Shell hits 1
DD Banckert, Shell hits 1
DD Evertsen, Shell hits 2
DD Kortenaer
DD Piet Hein
DD Van Ghent

We get the better of the action, it looks like the BC couldn't rearm at Sorebaya. But our force pulls back, having expended only 1/3rd of its ammo. Visibility:

Poor visibility due to Rain with 53% moonlight
Maximum visibility in Rain and 53% moonlight: 6,000 yards

So a real knife fight.

The 6BB Tf gets attacked by aircraft from Sorebaya to little effect. Next turn the BB's hit Sorebaya, while the Kongo Tf hovers off Semerang to catch and ships that try to flee west... ofh we have 5 subs and about 30 Nells ready to help as well!

Malaya 26 Dec 1941

As you can see we are spread out, but have broken the enemy up nicely with the Mersing landing.

Here is the situation around Java. Should be an interesting next turn.

We are concerned about Swordfish/Vilderbeast, but they appear to be operating out of Sumatra.

China we have diced them up nicely, won a series of battles quite decisively and are on our objectives. The hard slog will start soon, but unless we stuff up badly this area is in the bag, they have lost too much force, and have been broken up piecemeal.

We don't want to kill the units off though, just force them off the main routes.

Even in Central china out of Shanghai we have trashed their forces and they are in full retreat... even though we don't have a lot to follow up with.

At Pakhoi we are shock attacking again, but with more air support.

Great move at Toungoo, and a nasty slaughter at Darwin. From the Allied perspective, their SCTF are taking something with them to Davy Jones' Locker, probably not a bad exchange. Kudos to your inexperienced opponents for having the stones to play aggressively, but on the whole you are in good shape in both Malaya and Luzon, which bodes well.
