Poland:

Poland is huge in 1740 at least on the map but its forces are somewhat weak. Poland controls all lands from West Prussia to Lithuania.

Nice write-up.

Btw, this scenario, is it available or is it already in the game? I don't recall seeing it.

Thanks,

Alan

Historical Background for the Game(Not necessarily all true in real History):
In 1740 Charles the VI, the Holy Roman Emperor and ruler of Austria died. He was succeeded by his daughter Maria Theresa as ruler of Austrian lands. However, Maria Theresa could not be a candidate for Holy Roman Emperor because there had never been a woman Holy Roman Emperor.

There are several candidates for Holy Roman Emperor(in the game)
Francis of Austria-Maria Theresa’s husband.
Charles of Bavaria
Philip XV-King of Spain
Augustus-King of Saxony and Poland

Meanwhile…Prussia invaded the Austrian province of Silesia in December 1740 and Austria and Prussia are at war. England and Spain are also at war in a conflict which came to be called the War of Jenkins Ear. The reason is Span ended the thirty-year(meant to last from 1713-1743) asiento or contract-right, which gave the British the right to supply an unlimited number of slaves to the Spanish colonies, and 500 tons of goods per year.

We are now on the first Economic Phase.

France has seized most of lower and middle Germany and GB has taken lands in upper Germany and the states of Denmark, Holstein, and Hamburg. Austria DOW Venetia and the Venetians have held out long enough for their navy to sail all the way to Prussia(see picture). At the same time, Khevenhuller has advanced to within 1 step of Berlin. Russia, Turkey, and Spain have done little as they wait out the harsh winter.

The Imperial Diet of 1741 meets to attempt to elect a new Holy Roman Emperor

The candidate are:
1. The Bavarian Charles
2. Francis the husband of Maria Theresa(Austria)
3. King Philip V of Spain
4. Augustus King of Saxony and Poland

The Electors are(each elector gets 1 vote):
Bavaria(Control of Bavaria-France)
Bohemia(Control of Prague-Austria)
Brandenburg-Prussia
Cologne-Control of Julich-France
Hanover-Control of Hanover-GB
Mainz-Occupation of Mainz-France
Palatinate-control of the Palatinate-France
Saxony-Control of saxony as a free state-No One
Trier-Control of Liege-Austria

Takes 5 Votes to elect an emperor. When all the votes are in and the Economic turn is complete then the Diet will announce an Emperor if one is elected or that no emperor has received 5 votes so Emperor is elected.

Each candidate may now make a statement declaring why he should be elected Holy Roman Emperor

Philip V, King of Spain, rises to address the Diet:

Electors, Princes, and members of the Church, I humbly propose that I, King Philip of Spain, be elected Holy Roman Emperor. The Hapsburgs have held the Emperorship for the past 300 years and now it is time for a change. I, in my person, am a perfect compromise between the claims of the French backed Charles of Bavaria and the Austrian backed Francis. I am both Bourbon, by birth, and Hapsburg, through my grandmother Maria, and in these warlike times, if chosen Emperor, I can fairly adjudicate between the concerns of my nephew Louis XV and my cousin Maria Theresa.

If elected I promise to keep the German states of the Holy Roman Empire free from control by both the French and the Austrians. I have governed the Empire of Spain for much longer than Charles or Francis have ever governed any Kingdom and the Spanish Empire has flourished under my rule as will the Holy Roman Empire.

I do not want to speak ill of my opponents but I must inform this Diet of the problems which would occur if they were elected. Charles of Bavaria is already a puppet King supported by France and is altogether too weak to keep the Holy Roman Empire independent. Francis, who will be ruled by his wife, is altogether too strong and will use his territorial might to oppress the free states of the Empire. Augustus already has more troubles than he can handle with his lands in Poland.

There are many other reasons why I should be elected, but I do not wish to take up too much of your time. Please consider my words when casting your vote.

Francis of Austria rises to speak:

I have no current election platform. I believe that it would be in the best interests of Europe for the current powers to abstain from voting. These times of uncertainty demand a man of action, and none of the current candidates have shown themselves to be men of action yet. Augustus appears to be asleep, Francis is yet to be tested in battle, Charles is a drunkard and Philip is more interested in plundering the silver of the Caribbean than he is in affairs of Europe.

Representatives of Germany! For too long have you been forgotten by your Kaiser and for too long have you waited for enlighted leadership. We, Louis XV, descendant of the Roi du Soleil himself and by God given the right to rule, are now telling you that righteousness and justice have finally arrived. A new Emperor will soon be chosen and peace and prosperity will return to your lands, under french protection if necessary. The frenchgermanic votes goes to....

/Louis XV

Thanks for the comment DB. Happy to know someone is reading this.

Now to business:

The Imperial Diet of 1741 has elected a new Holy Roman Emperor........

King Phlip V of Spain. Phlip will adopt the title Emperor Phlip I as no Holy Roman Emperor has been called Phlip before(yes I checked).

Phlip received the needed 5 votes from the electors of Bavaria, Cologne, Mainz, Palatinate(all 4 controlled by King Louis XV who told them how to vote) and the elector of Brandenburg(Prussia)

May Emperor Phlip I rule wisely, justly, and hopefuly have a long reign

.

The Austrian General Khevenhuller turns to meet the new threat of the French army under Broglie and marches into Bavaria and begins to besiege Munich. Frederick the Great marches his main field army through Bohemia and joins up with Broglie.

Meanwhile in the South, the Spanish army under Gages moves up into Austrian controlled Modena and joins with a single French Corps. The Austrian General Traun stands in Venetia ready to repel the Spaniards.

Long time since I updated this! The war between Austria vs. France, Prussia, and Spain is over. Here is what happened:

The Austrians moved to Bavaria and took Munich by siege.
This caused the Prussians and French to attack.
The Austrians defeated the Prussians and French in a bloodly 2 day battle.
The next turn the Prussians and French attacked again but were again defeated by Austria.

In the South the Austrians with 2 corps moved to Romagna and were attacked by a Spanish army of 6 corps. The battle ended in a double break but the Austrians were left with only 4,000 men in Italy.

Finally, Austria surrendered conditionally to France, Prussia, and Spain but the surrender was light as Prussia took reparations, France blocked trade, and Spain took 24 months of peace.

Everyone still has a great chance to win the game at this point.

France and her Allies Frederick of Prussia and Philip the Emperor have graciously awarded the austrian king a fair peace. This peace is just and fair for all and will mean a long and prosperous peace in Europe for the coming 50 years.

Although the austrians have already broken the promise of no trade we do guess it is only a mistake by some overeager but senile bureacrat who have misread the content in the treaty.

By the grace of God,

Louis XV, Roi de France
