ORIGINAL: AW1Steve Can't you volunteer for the duty or something? An urgent flight to somewhere? Are you familiar with the phrase "I'm On Leave"? No matter what is happening here, I'm not at work so it could already be worse I don't care if they're giving out free sweets at work, I'm not going. There's also the Universal Military Rule Number One (1): Do Not Volunteer For Anything Ever, Under Any Circumstances*. I've already been suckered into volunteering once and look where that's got me *Capital letters needed for emphasis Yeah, I'm familiar with the concept of leave.(I DID spend a little bit of my life trying to use it). It's that vacation that I was never allowed to take,or if I did , I'd be recalled from (even if visiting another country , generally across large waters). Military rule #2 DO VOLUNTEER , when the alternative is something much, much worse. (Generally combined with extreme coercion from a senior NCO). You are the only one who knows the worst of choices. Looks like you chose in-law duties.Have fun! The thing is, once you've volunteered you are remembered as someone who volunteers for things and next time you're top of the list. There's also the fact that if you volunteer you're definately doing it, if you wait until you're ordered to there's a chance that someone else will get pinged
