The "ype" is called the T36 Gun Motor Carriage. It was an attempt to create a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, by sticking a 40mm Bofors on the chassis of an M3 medium tank. Never got beyond prototype; couldn't get the fire control to work properly.

The funny thing is, if they ever did put this thing in the field they would probably have needed 2 deuce and a halfs full of ammo following each one to make it a viable AA platform.

Theres definitely something to be said for totalitarianism. At least with that you pretty much have a 50/50 chance of not ending up with a complete idiot. With this democracy thing, and the elections every 2 years, it really throws off the statistics. The way I figure it, there is a 91.7% chance that over 75% of the legislative branch would be complete idiots at any one time.

Your numbers are way off. There's 100% chance that 100% of the legislature are complete arsewipes and are glued to the corporate lobby tit.

Not really. Single and dual 40mm Bofors SPAA were designed and used succesfully in both Korea and Vietnam.

Yeah, it's the local stupidity that chaps my patooty. Some poor guy in Tokyo being stupid doesn't really bother me. Yeah, it's the same stupidity Joe Redneck here displays...but it isn't "in range".

You have a patootie? I thought they stopped making those in the 40's or so.

I think it was replaced with a newer model. They call it a butt.

Arrghhhhh....

My niece is getting married... this is shaping up to be a disaster on sooooo many levels... i can't get into it here, but here's the latest:

HE has decided to get married in a small church... in downtown DC... in August... that has no air conditioning... and a total of THREE parking spaces, with the nearest public parking 7 blocks away at the metro station... with the church holding UP to 30 people (and there are ~100 invited guests so far)...

I think this post and all subsequent ones are being very unkind to the Congressman, who is simply expressing his concern at what is a potentially serious issue

Could the military personnel and extra equipment being sent to Guam not just be spread out evenly across the island - thus ensuring the armed forces get their wish and the threat of Guam tipping over goes away?

The occurence of Pacific Islands falling over has featured too many times in the past to simply be ignored. Show the Congressman some respect for goodness sake....

Guam has supported over 250,000 American troops in the past. I think they can manage 8,000. They manage up 200,000 Japanese tourist in a single month, mostly concentrated in the Tumon beach area (About a mile and a half). And get this....the Guam buisness community is constantly beging the USN to home port a carrier group there (6-10,000 people and their dependants). There's nearly 500 congressmen and women. The size of a small village. Guess who is the village idiot?

Well that may be true, but this man's a Congressman so he must know what he's talking about - I know all our politicians this side of the pond do - so on that basis I'm staying away from Guam until I know they got some big anchors or something to ensure the whole island is secured to the seabed.
