Hi All. Just started my first pbem as Japanese. I've checked the must read threads and know that I need to convert my Nates and Claudes to something else, but not sure if this means manually force the factories to convert now (Dec 18th) and pay the supply point price or simply stop production and wait for these factories to auto convert in which case I believe there is no supply point cost?

What do the more experienced Jap pbem players recommend?

Thanks anyway rtrapasso - the Japanese production is a whole new ball game to me - any pointers are welcome (experienced or otherwise).

about nate and claudes:

i would convert them instant into oscar/zeros. why? because you will need every oscar/zero to replace the outdated fighters since it will take a while to get the next generation fighters like tony, tojo and jack.

generaly, i would go the "russian" way when it comes to production:

few models but a large number of them. that means, concentrate on tony research for army fighters (i prefer tony over tojo because of the 20mm cannons of the tony what makes it a better fighter against bombers while the tony is still a good dogfigher). start producing some kawasaki engines from the beginning so you have a engine pool when tony is available.

also try to get the jack asap as replacement for navy fighters. the jack has armor and 4x20mm! as bomber killer.

hope that helps a bit.

You manually convert 99.9% plane production.  Same thing with ship production as far as halting or speeding up production of individual ships.

Thanks Todd. So I will manually convert my Claudes to A6M2 (simply not enough Zeros being produced right now) and will convert my Nates to research Tonys hoping to get Tony's earlier (Oscar's don't seem to have the fire power to stop Brit or US aircraft and Chines and Dutch must have used up their trainined pilots by now.).

If I do not manually convert because I am also eating through available supplies at a fairly high rate, will the Claudes update to A6M2 at the end of Dec? (I am now at 25th Dec?)

No, they won't.  I think that Nell converts to Betty and Mavis to Emily, if I remember.

I haven't played as the Japanese side of late as my 3 current games all find me as an Allied type of guy.
