Hi all,

Just bought WitE. Downloading now.

Not that I need it right now, but a friend of mine needed some computer support buying it, so I "happened" to buy it at the same time

Congrats!

My list of Matrix games is starting to get respectable - should tell something about how satisfied I am with their games and support

Close Combat - Cross of Iron
Close Combat - Last Stand Arnhem
Close Combat - Wacht am Rhein
Close Combat: The Longest Day
Empires in Arms
Gary Grigsby's War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945
Norm Koger's The Operational Art of War III
War In The Pacific
War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition

Per,

I really enjoyed the Close Combat series when they came out about 10 years ago. Have Matrix's "retreads" held up over time? Worthwhile buys?

bets on how many more pages it'll get too? I'm guessing it'll get to page 8.

Nope. More than that. This is like the Price is Right-I'll go your bid +1. Heck, I'll even spam it some more just to make sure I get it there, if you wanna bet.

IMO, yes. I bought the Wacht am Rhein game when it came out as I really enjoyed the original CC Battle of the Bulge (don't remember what number it had). It had some smaller issues at first (esp the path finding), but as always, it was quickly patched up to a really good level. I still play it - I have a campaign running and do some battle at times when I need a break from AE

To be honest, I haven't tried the others yet - I bought them all when MG had one of those weekend offers at a rebate. But, judging from the quality of the WaR game, I have no fears that they wouldn't be worthwhile buys.

so what's with all the angst revolving around this "5th Guards Tank Army" persona?

I believe that current consensus is that this is Japan/Helmut/Rudolf/whatever back for more of what got him banned. Leave him to it I say, getting involved isn't going to do us any good.

If he is banned, isn't he supposed to apply for reinstatement, and come back under his old name?

Supposed to, rtrapasso, but it's not working that way. I note that "Helmut" is alive and well and posting in the WITE. Not even the pretext of a different login.

hmmmm....

Yucko. Hated the close combat series. Then again i hate real time games in general. I gave Storm Eagle Studios a try.....i am REALLY trying to like the game beyond the eye candy.....but it's reallly hard.

Better was the Combat Mission series. It had real time elements that people love so much for realism sake but without the clickfest ohmygodimissedtheactionsomewhereonthebattlefield mess. Brilliant concept.....a combat planning phase like a turn based game followed by a simotanious real time combat resolution that is run by the computer and then saved to a "replay file" so that you can view the results at your leisure, not missing any of the action.

Too bad i tended to go back to Steel Panthers in the end. Someday i want to give these two dust covered CD's another shake.

much appreciated...to be frank, it's not looking good...i'm trying to stay positive and remind myself that i'm getting to the age where these things are inevitable, to some extent...it's a fantastic reminder that the way we treat our bodies early in life has profound consequences later...

Pet Store | Chicago, IL, USA

(A mother comes in looking to get a hamster for her four children. They range in age from 3 to 10.)

Mother: ”Excuse me, miss?”

Me: ”How may I help you?”

Mother: ”Can you tell me if this hamster is a girl?”

(I look at the hamster in question. It’s most definitely male.)

Mother, to me: *quietly* “Just say it’s a girl.”

Me: “Yes, it’s a girl.”

Mother, to children: “Yes, this one’s a girl. We can call her Jessie.”

Child: ”What’s that hanging off the back of the hamster?” *points to the hamster’s prominent testicles*

Mother: *looks at me in desperation*

Me: ”Er…that’s…”

Mother: *frantic look of desperation*

Me: ”…its butt.”

Mother: *look of relief*

(They ended up buying the hamster in spite of its large…butt.)

Well I have been a long standing fan of " 4th Guards Tank Army " so naturally I don' like 5th.

Unless of course they have a battle out of conference then I will pull for them.
