Group patrol altitude is 30000 , scrambling fighters between 11000 and 12000. Time for all group planes to reach interception is 1 minutes the enemy attacks the newly captured airfield at Cotabato today which is very surprising to me because I canīt see much reason for him to do so as weīve got so many engineers there that keeping the airfield damaged is impossible, nor is going to destroy any bombers there as we only got fighters at the field which pose more a threat to him (due to radar) then his sweeps to us... unfortunately I decided to use my fighters for a sweep myself today, so the enemy was only met by a handful of my fighters... but those fighters did an excellent job, which isnīt surprising with radar and the dive... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Butuan , at 80,89 Weather in hex: Thunderstorms Raid detected at 41 NM, estimated altitude 34,000 feet. Estimated time to target is 7 minutes Allied aircraft F4U-1A Corsair x 11 No Allied losses Aircraft Attacking: 11 x F4U-1A Corsair sweeping at 25000 feet * -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Chungking , at 76,45 Weather in hex: Heavy cloud Raid detected at 120 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet. Estimated time to target is 35 minutes Japanese aircraft Ki-48-IIa Lily x 21 No Japanese losses Airbase hits 4 Airbase supply hits 1 Runway hits 20 Aircraft Attacking: 21 x Ki-48-IIa Lily bombing from 10000 feet * Airfield Attack: 2 x 100 kg GP Bomb have moved long range recons (Lightnings and especially Liberator recons) to Chungking and have started to recon bases in Korea and on Formosa to make the enemy a bit nervous... Rainer knows that we received our first B-29 and due to this he also moved fighters to his important Korean bases to defend against B-29 strategic attacks, which is exactly what suits me because these fighters (hundreds of them) have to be employed far away of the front or he has to accept that my B-29 will destroy these industry sites if not covered by enemy fighters... what he doesnīt know is that we are still building up our B-29 force, Iīm aiming at 9 operational squadrons (all with 12 bombers) and Iīm creating elite squadrons at the moment. The original 7 bomber squadrons the first B-29 units are showing up with have been downgraded to other bombers and will serve as training squadrons, other highly experienced frontline squadrons have been taken out of the front and been upgraded to B-29 and have been further reinforced with the best available bomber crews. Iīm aiming for high experience in this case as this is what is going to bring back the bombers and minimize losses, usually high experienced crews got high grd bomb skill anyway so the B-29 squadrons should really be a highly potent force... the transfer of the best 144 bomber crews (9 x 16) of course will drain my frontline B-24 squadrons to some extent and these crews will be replaced by low exp (40 on average) crews with grd bomb skill 70 which are the usual replacements, so I expect to see the performance of my B-24 squadrons to slightly decrease (we will make up with numbers) and losses slightly go up due to lower experience levels... I expect to see my first B-29 attack in about three weeks... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Cotabato , at 78,90 Weather in hex: Moderate rain Raid detected at 80 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet. Estimated time to target is 22 minutes Japanese aircraft Ki-67-Ia Peggy x 22 Allied aircraft F4U-1A Corsair x 6 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-67-Ia Peggy: 1 destroyed, 5 damaged Allied ground losses: 5 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Airbase supply hits 1 Runway hits 2 Aircraft Attacking: 15 x Ki-67-Ia Peggy bombing from 10000 feet * Airfield Attack: 2 x 250 kg GP Bomb CAP engaged: VMF-218 with F4U-1A Corsair (0 airborne, 0 on standby, 2 scrambling) 1 plane(s) not yet engaged, 0 being recalled, 0 out of immediate contact. Group patrol altitude is 30000 , scrambling fighters to 5000. Time for all group planes to reach interception is 10 minutes VMF-225 with F4U-1A Corsair (1 airborne, 0 on standby, 0 scrambling) 1 plane(s) intercepting now. Group patrol altitude is 30000 Raid is overhead some of the bombers turned back due to not having any escorts (probably a screw up) and only a handful of Corsairs left to score some easy kills... seeing Peggies is somewhat alerting me as the Peggy is quite a formidable bomber of the Japanese and if the Ia is showing up at the front already, I guess it wonīt take much longer to also see torpedo equipped Peggies which is what I really fear... I donīt know how it looks like in AE and the IJAAF bomber upgrade paths with PDU on, if all IJAAF bombers can be upgraded to torp bombers then Iīm going to be in trouble on the first thought... but then I realized that the enemy is going to totally lack IJAAF bomber crews trained to torp attack, so it will take him at least three months to have a first bunch of trained pilots after the appearance of the Peggy, so he would have to really invest a hell a lot to completely equip the IJAAF with torpedo carrying bomber units, I guess the enemy wonīt be able to do so and the few that are going to be trained could be shot down in a day or two if they run into a nice number of my fighters... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Cotabato , at 78,90 Weather in hex: Moderate rain Raid detected at 80 NM, estimated altitude 9,000 feet. Iīm sure there are ppl out there on the forum that could even find an explanation for it, just like I usually do when I get home totally drunk at 6 am and find an explanation for my gf... and at that time I even think it would be a reasonable one, until I get sober again... perhaps I should take the time at some point and list a hundred fighter squadron missions and post it in a way like "a teachable moment, here you see..." itīs ridicoulos... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Iloilo , at 79,84 Weather in hex: Thunderstorms Raid detected at 120 NM, estimated altitude 10,000 feet. Group patrol altitude is 38500 Raid is overhead 1 planes vectored on to bombers while the fight over Cotabato clearly went in our favour, this wasnīt planned to go the way it did... we wanted to keep the airfield at Iloilo suppressed and ordered a routine mission for the heavies that got escorted by some P-38... unfortunately for us, KB ends up in range to send more than 80 Zekes from leaking Cap to defend the place (when I look at the KB units, Iīm not sure it was LRCAP)... having excellent radar coverage here, the Lightnings were shred by the diving Zekes and it turned out to be a bloody affair for this Lightning squadron, unfortunately it has been one of our elite squadrons and a lot of the pilots are gone now as they really got massacred... one of the examples where you would have been 5 times better off not sending a single escort with the heavy bombers... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Iloilo , at 79,84 Weather in hex: Thunderstorms Raid detected at 80 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet. I wouldnīt fly any attacks on Allied bases at this stage and would completely focus on attacking shipping as this is the only thing that really could hurt us... attacking bases is only something the Japanese are paying for while they can hold their own when they defend their own bases, at least when I look at the fighter losses for each side...
