Sorry for noob questions but....

1)Recently I started a random campaign for PCK ( 1st PZ) and in a few of the battles I've come across Russian infantry initially setup in the open on the edges of the maps when just in front of them is cover (woods, foxholes or buildings). Are they suppossed to represent incoming troops even though they don't move towards cover, in fact they usually stand and die in the open except to move toward a VP flag once it has been captured by my forces? I know this is the PCO forum just was wondering if this is something that has been addressed in the updated AI or if there was a reason for this that was escaping me.
2)I'm not sure how the nomenclature of the units is suppossed to be read, i.e. 1/1/1-1panzer. 1st panzer, 1st platoon, 1st company, 1st regiment ?
3) is HQ 2/1-1panzer suppossed to represent the commander of the battlegroup i.e. the player, or is he suppossed to be off map?

I apologize if these questions have already been discussed elsewhere but I was unable to locate them.

PS. I hope these questions don't come across as negative. I thoroughly enjoy PCK and can't wait for the update. I'm also very grateful that there are people willing to keep updating and improving this game. Pardon the paraphrasing but " You're better men then I, Gunga Din."

1) This is the best place to ask as we don't check the old forums daily.

The templates that are used for random battles and campaigns are the maps with possible locations placed on them for units.

Because it is random, you may have some units in strange places. That's the fun of it to me.

The other questions need someone else to explain.

It usually goes the other way. Regiment/company/platoon/tank.

But in some scenarios the ID might be too long and cumberson so they could just shorten it to company/platoon/tank. And leave the regiment or division info for the briefing.

The way OOB lists is oddball in real life too. I forget not having it in front of me right now. But it is something like the actual small unit is listed first then the next number starts as much higher level and works towards that unit.


"HQ" is the on map company commander section. He may well be the "Battle Group" commander too, in your imagination.

Thank you both for your quick responses but I'm slow so bear with me a little more please.

Each map would have certain areas that the computer then chooses depending on the orientation of said map? Are you able to add VP flags to a map once the campaign has been generated to trigger these units to move earlier?

In the case of a random campaign for the first panzer division you would have as core units:
1) HQ 2/2-1 panzer/1 and HQ 2/2-1 panzer /2 ... read as HQ/2nd Co/2nd Plt 1st and second tank
2) 2/2/1-1 panzer/1, 2/2/1-1panzer/2, etc ... read as 2nd Rgt/2nd Co/1st Plt tanks 1-5
3) 2/1/1-1 panzer/1, 2/1/1-1panzer/2, etc ... read as 2nd Rgt/1st Co/1st Plt tanks 1-4
4) 1/2/1-1 PzGren/1 etc ... read as 1st Rgt/2nd Co/1st Plt squads 1-3
5) 1/2/1-1 Transport etc ... read as 1st Rgt/2nd Co/1st Plt HTs 1-3
6) 1/1-1 Aufkl/1 and /2 ... read as 1st Co/1st Plt ACs 1&2

Would that be correct?

First ? yes orientation and battle plan. Second, no, VPs are randomly placed by the program. However I suppose you could edit the files to change/move VPs but I have never tried it.

Editing a random battle or any battle would give that human who edits it insider info about enemy disposition, placement etc.

Can't you just imagine you happened upon troops in the open as part of FOG? (fog of war)

I'm actually kind of surprised anyone would even know who Boris was, you're showing your age. But then again perhaps they are showing the show as reruns on the Arizona West Coast. I was going to add a tag line about "looking for Moose and Squirrel" but couldn't remember the quote.

Yes.

Except for the first:

...read as "HQ OF 2nd company/2nd plt tanks/[then individual unit]".

A combat commander of a battle group ("Kampf Gruppe") may be above company HQs. Often not in PzC games but in real life.

That's what I have been doing or thinking of them as a flanking maneuver because of where they sometimes are setup in relation to my initial deployment. I guess it's more the fact that they don't try to get to cover or even move till a flag has been captured then the fact they start in the open. I apologize for not making this clear. Tanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate the input.

Wikipedia has Boris Badenov (I spelled my own name wrong, eep) and Natasha Fatale as spies from the nation of Pottsylvania. I actually am old enough to have seen the last couple of years of the series as a small child, but have no recollection of doing so. I do remember watching it as reruns in the dorm common room in the late 70's, well kind of. Age, life and misspent youth have taken quite a toll on my memory.

I also wondered about the unit nomenclature. From what I could figure the Kharkov (German) campaign used Plt/Co/Btn/Rgt while the Mcensk campaign had me scratching my head. It appears to be Co/Rgt/Btn/Plt.

In my scenarios it's Platoon Leaders name, company, battalion, regiment.

I've also had trouble deciphering these, even though I've been told more than once. For the most part my unit designations try to specify the structure : "Lt Fritch Plt/1st Co/6th Pz R"

I just pulled those unit ids from the reference. I didn't bother to unravel them. I believe the book's authors are Polish so it might be in reverse-Polish notation.
