Oh boy. Here we go with the "virulent love making prowess" stories.

Aren't there some precautions to preempt the 'virulent' aspect of that bit? I assume the British gentry would find it inappropriate to use his majesty's brand jimmy hats?

Bah! What stuff! A real man, much less an officer, should be able to deal with any concerns of this nature simply by consuming copious amounts of small gin in a slow, methodical and imperturbable manner.

Chickenboy, if you believe that the Roman Empire was larger - either in area or by number of subject peoples - than that of the British Empire then might I suggest you a) brush up on your geography, and b) brush up on your history?

Scuttled!

You have a moustache and drink lemon tea?

My legal advisors from D, C & H have recommended me not to elaborate further on this topic.

Edited: Grammar.

But virulent love making is apparently perfectly fine to discuss.

Good grief, if Nicklas Bendtner is even half as good as he thinks he is then Denmark should be world champions soon

Good at what? Being a twat?

According to a recent report I read, after a session with a sports psychologist (why is that even a real job?) the result was that NB had the most self-belief that the doc had ever come across

Like I said, a twat.

If he was good it would be okay, but he's not so it isn't.

Warspite1

I have just read the posts re Nicklas Bendtner and I think most of you are getting there although are still failing to grasp the fundamental point. Allow me to explain:

- Bendtner has a hugely inflated opinion of himself; true
- He's actually not very good; true

Ergo and thertofore - yes, he may be considered a t**t. However, he is not alone in exhibiting the above characteristics; think Emanuel Adebayor, Francis Jeffers etc

However the defining feature that ensures his t**tiness, is simply this: The man is a Gooner. Nuff said .

Gooner usually means upstandng individual w/ high moral character and exceptional talent.

Warspite1

Apologies my mistake - I thought all Gooners were.... EDIT "we interupt this message as it contains foul and abusive language"

Easily. That's a problem when you live on a tiny bleedin' island, ain't it? Not much bloody land mass from which to base one's 'empire' what.

Thats why they decided to take over everyone elses islands. Even claimed that land masses that were not, in fact, islands to be islands so they could take them over.

it's interesting that if you have a high opinion of yourself, and you are great in your field, it's way more acceptable than if you have a high opinion of yourself and are just really, really good...

Well, it give me a fair advice on what i am worth: nothing .
Worth nothing at work, worth nothing at game, worth nothing at sport, worth nothing in friendship (lost a friend for a stupid story),
and probably worth nothing at husband

We'll have none of that, my friend. Theres not a person in here who thinks that youre anything less than a devoted husband and a great friend.

Oh yes there is a person that think that i am worthless : me
Can't get out of this idea

As for the other stuff, dont let it get you down. There are quite a few of us who can tell you what a mess the job market is right now. Employers are super-picky and cheap. I know people who were not hired because (the employers told them outright) that they decided to go with a candidate who was less qualified but was willing to accept a lesser salary offer.

Well, yes, i know that job market is hard....but 3 of the interview were in my own administration. Often, task are offered to people having less time than me, but some are.....sexiest

Hang in there.

C'mon, dude-you're being a bit hard on yourself, don't you think? You're absolutely not worthless. Full stop. You've people that rely on you in life, more than you know. By definition, that makes you valuable.

If some erstwhile employer doesn't recognize your own value as a person, who cares? Because some faceless corporation doesn't elect to add you to their payroll does not mean that you are without worth or value as a person.

I agree with Andre 100%. Dont be so hard on yourself Eric. Even the most annoying things in life will pass.

Lastly, I prefer to consider the total percentage of the world's population under the Empire moniker. In that setting, the UK empire looks rather paltry.

Above it? About a dozen empires in India, China a couple o' Caliphates and some Persians. The Achaemenid Empire contained about 44% of the population in the 5th Century BC. The Mongols also had a greater percentage of the world's populace under their banner than the UK at its peak too.

Interesting - could be close. The stat I recall reading is that ours was the biggest in land area.

I suspect that if you put Oz and the Kiwis and then Canada together, then lump in what was a very large part of Africa, I suspect ours comes out top, but having said that, I do not know the exact boundaries of the Mongol empire so I may be wrong.....

http://www.worldsbiggests.com/2010/06/top-10-largest-empires-in-world-history.html

Interesting. 250,000 sq miles....you beat them with the Victoria Desert.

I totally call foul on that website. They calculated the UK empire on a cumulative basis, including Eastern US, Canada and the aforementioned Australia and New Zealand in the 1922 figures. They even padded their numbers with a portion of Antarctica!

Canada became largely independent in 1867, Australia and New Zealand were all but independent by 1922 as well. Hardly seems appropriate to include their totals in this 1922 number as these were part of the "Empire" at that point on paper only.

ETA: Don't even get me started on why the Eastern US shouldn't have been in that calculation...

Jealous. Just because you can't have an empire of your own.

So sad

Hey, we're listed on there too! Guam, Philippines, etc. got us a listing in the early 1900s.

Yeah, the Danes supposedly had an "empire" too.

Wise words from history ... (?)

"An officer should be comely and above all else confident in his own dress and bearing. He should, where possible, eat a small piece of meat each morning with molasses and beans. He should air himself gracefully when under fire and never place himself in a position of difficulty when being shot at. He should eat his meals comfortably and ahead of his soldiers, for it is he whom is more important tactically on the battlefield and therefore he who should be well nourished. His hair should be well groomed and if possible he should adorn a moustache or similar facial adornment. When speaking to his soldiers he should appear unnerved and aloof and give direction without in any way involving himself personally in the execution of arduous or unofficer like duties. He should smoke thin panatellas except when in the company of ladies where he should take only a small gin mixed with lemon tea. He should be an ardent and erudite gentleman and woo the ladies both in the formal environment and in the bedroom where he should excel himself beyond the ordinary soldier with his virulent love making prowess.

Yeah 45 minutes. That includes the shower pre - and another post - oh and a couple of pints and some chips beforehand (nothing like a bit of foreplay - well I am a gent you know) .

I had a work buddy that used to joke that foreplay for him and his wife was, "Honey, brace yourself" or if he was feeling generous he would say, "Don't blink."

Yes, but invariably they did. With (obviously) a few notable exceptions, the British Empire brought prosperity to "conquered" territories - unlike some empire building countries who shall remain nameless.

Not that I disagree with your premise but, dude, youre siting wikipedia.

That premise is so wide of the mark it could have been written by Nicklas Bendtner.

Are you calling CB a t**t?

Warspite1

Very quick witted of you Mr Mouse . However, whilst it appears that way, I was doing no such thing CB. I simply wanted to make two points: 1. the British Empire was the big one, the daddy, the big cheese, the number 1, the numero uno...well you get the picture, and 2. NB cannot shoot straight.

Mongols should have you beat in land mass.

Easily. That's a problem when you live on a tiny bleedin' island, ain't it? Not much bloody land mass from which to base one's 'empire' what.

Thats why they decided to take over everyone elses islands. Even claimed that land masses that were not, in fact, islands to be islands so they could take them over.

Warspite1

Yes, and we did it all rather well don't you think? Well, at least we did until the wheels started to come off rather rapidly after WWII anyway.

Thats because all you had to deal with until then were mostly French and Germans. Is it a coincidence that the empire went down the crapper when the Russians got seriously involved? I think not.

Warspite1

What like 1854?

1) It appears, however, that it was big, but not the biggest one, the runner-up daddy, the slightly smaller cheese, number 2, numero due.....you get the picture.

2) Who?

Sure. Read some of the plans you and the frogs had before you landed. Instead you took one city, lost over a quarter of a million men (if the Turks are included, of course), gave the aforementioned city back and left ignominiously. Beginning of the end, buddy, beginning of the end.

1. We shall agree to disagree on the delicate subject of the British Empire. As Shakespeare - or was it Dickens - once wrote, " who's the f****** daddy?

2. NB - Nicklas Bendtner a highly self opinionated (but really rather rubbish) footballer who plays for some rubbishy north London outfit - called Arse nul or something like that. I do realise of course in writing this that his team will beat mine later in the season and that he will score the winning goal
