Is it his defensive value? I know on offense its MP, but I believe it changes on defense. I always assumed it was defensive value but sometimes this doesnt make sense.

On an enemy counter bottom rh number is defence value

On your counters it's defaulted to show CV-MP, when you press Z it changes to CV-DEFENSIVE CV

Also, the format of the number will tell you what it is; for example:

1 - 4 is CV = 1 and Movement Points = 4

1 = 4 is CV = 1 and Defensive CV = 4

Oh, Christ!

I never realized this. I have played four games already and I thought that the enemy left hand figure was the combat value of the uppermost unit, those beneath it being hidden. The right hand figure I never really paid attention to, thinking it was movement points. Now, this will explain some rather curious combat results in the past.

Also, it hasen't occured to me until now that there is two different combat values, attack and defence. My own fault. This is what happens when you go by trial and error and only read those things you think you don't understand. Oh, well ...

important thing about the z toggle is

it allows you to see how your forts plus CV add up defensively to a figure which will make for a difficult battle for the hex

When it says 'X' it means greater than 99 CV defensive values, you will commonly see this in fortified urban areas
