Andy,

I´ve got a little discussion with PzB about flak effect in his AAR as we noticed heavy flak losses when he bombed Comilla at 23000ft which is more than surprising to me as I had dozens of attacks in my PBEM against bases with 150 3.7 inch flak at 11000ft and the enemy had a 2% loss rate on average. May I ask how many heavy flak guns you´ve got at Comilla (the medium/small ones can´t reach that alt anyway)? I won´t give the exact numbers to PzB, we´re just curious how it can be so different to the results in my PBEM.

I try to never use a base for 4E bombers unless its well protected and it must have forts to protect the AA guns if its in the open - open ground unfortified AA gun = bad idea especially if they are in base forces.....

My plan is progressing I estimate 10 - 15 days before I will be ready I am just drawing some veteran pilots out of training command to give my Carrier Sqns the killer edge.

I will need to organise 7th Fleet very carefully as its probably going to be outnumbered.

10 Fleet Carriers (7 USN 630 aircraft, 3 RN 165 aircraft)
4 Light Carriers (120 Aircraft)
12 Escort Carriers (360 Aircraft)

Total just under 1200 aircraft.

The fleet is assembling well back from the front but my main concern is provinding allied level escorts %'s for my TF's

TF7.1 - 2 x Fleet, x 1 Light Carrier
TF7.2 - 2 x Fleet, x 1 Light Carrier
TF7.3 - 2 x Fleet, x 1 Light Carrier
TF7.4 - 1 x US Fleet and 3 RN Fleet Carrier
TF7.5 - 4 Escort Carrier
TF7.6 - 4 Escort Carriers
TF7.7 - 4 Escort Carriers (Replenishment)
3 x Assault Convoys
2 x Troop Convoys
2 x Supply Convoys
24 x Sub TF's
2 x Fuel Convoys

other than the reason of having a higher chance to see "coordinated carrier strikes" is there a reason to have that many carrier TFs? With the great new feature of having the possibility to attack ships from several TFs in a hex with one strike it won´t matter much to spread out the carriers (other than the ac number and coordination die roll).

Pretty sure it's just a typo, but you are planning to have boots on ground on 15th October 1943 yes?

Phase I of my next operations will consist of 3 major (2+ Divs) and 1 minor (1 Regt) amphib operation

with supporting and diversionary attacks taking place elsewhere involving another 2 - 4 Divs

Each operation will be indpt of each other but will be timed to hit in quick succession not sure how it will operate or go but my hopes are high.

As soon as I am able to disclose all the plans I will but I am still waiting on the last few pieces to arrive although some pre positioning is now beginning as subs sortie and air groups are moved to the right general locations

The fleet is now up to 75 Destroyers with more coming in with the convoys so I should end up with enough assets to keep the subs at bay when I hit home

After the 1st TF unloads its destroyers will form the heart of ASW TF's

There are a lot of Corvettes and SC's in my TF's as well as for MSW's again there are a few on hand in each of the TF's

There are reasons for some of those TF's lack of appearance which will become apparent shortly...

Lets just say I am hoping to catch PZB off guard but I am not counting on doing so hence the 1200 plus carrier aircraft

Operation Trident

Ops Order 5th Fleet

Fifth Fleet is ordered to stage a DIVERSION based at Pearl Harbour using minimal assets (TF5.1 3 x BB's, 4 x Cruisers 10 x Destroyers, 2 x CVE and 1 x CVL) plus numerous amphib TF's will formaup as though about to invade the Line Islands.

The objective is to draw the enmeies attentin to the Eastern pacific.

A secondary objective is to allow passge aof a major 500,000 supply and fuel convoy past the souther endge of the Japanese expansion to resupply Australia.

Ops Order 7th Fleet

Seventh Fleet is ordered to support the Australian 1st Army in its attack on Darwin and if necessary to perform an amphib attack on Darwin - if this proves uneccessary (ansd it has so proven) the fleet will support an assault by forces of the US XIVth, Australian 1st and Indian IVth Corps all under command of 14th British Army onto the islands of TIMOR and all the way up to BALI

Each of the Three Corps sized Amphib TF's (E, W and K) will land at a different target with the goal of securing Airfields capable of supporting P38, P47 and F4U Fighters and B25 Bombers.

For obvious reasons I have been playing this cose the the chest I transferred the entire fleet to Perth and Capetown months ago but kept them out of sight.

The most dangerous moment has now passed as the 7th Fleet carriers have met up with the Amphib and replenishment TF's

So all the fleet is waiting on is Somervilles SCTF headed up by Warspite and Ching Lee with the Pennsylvania Battle Group to join up 20+ subs are beating the ground ahead and 1,200 carrier aircraft are covering the fleet.

I expect to be spotted in 3 - 4 days so it will be inbteresting o see what happens next
