Armoured units can be the queens of the battlefield, artillery may be the god, but infantry is the backbone of the God. Warfare in cities, rough terrain, forests, jungle or swamps is practically impossible without infantry. Infantry moves along the tanks, protects them from hostile infantry, sweeps the hotspots, is usually regarded more lethal to enemy infantry than tanks (ok, not the Sturmtiger...) and can perform any task given. Never, never underestimate the infantry. Try to move your tank near an unsuppressed enemy infantry squad and see what happens. From early 1944 onwards infantry with Panzerfausts, bazookas and RPG's become real tank killers. There are, however, some areas of warfare where tanks reign supreme. Desert warfare is usually ruled by tanks (large fields and good vision), and also tanks are faster. But I usually buy more infantry than tanks, since tanks are quite prone to draw fire. Infantry can sneak up near an enemy and open fire with terrible results.
