Hello all!

I´ve got some newbie problems with the Road to Minsk scenario.
I play as the Axis on challenging and right now I use my panzers and my mechanized divisions to breakthrough the Soviet lines and I reach the northwestern outskirts of Minsk by turn 2.
In the southeast I usually runs into Soviets reinforcements that prevents those units from reaching Minsk in time. My inf divisions takes care of the Soviet central forces and the loses in the scenario is a stunning 1:10 in German favor.
BUT, my main problem is that I never manage to take Minsk by turn three. The Soviet defenders are to strong and I got to few units into position for the final assault.

I believe I could use my airforce better, since I just use them to bomb enemy airbases atm. But then I guess I have to rebase my airunits to more forward bases? I also think there would be good with some inf backup at Minsk, but I can´t see how I could get them there in time.

So can anyone give me some advice how I can be a bit more successive?

Try this thread

Theres alot of good gameplay tips in there.

I dont play Germans myself.

One thing I notice though is this...

You should use all your infantry to do the fighting, then your panzers would be next to Minsk on turn one.Ready for a turn 2 encirclement of the Minsk area.

Are you taking Vitebsk, Mogilev & Zhlobin? They each have 200 vp's. If you drive deep & fast with your panzer groups you may be able to take Minsk by coup. You may be able to take in on turn 2 if you can clear a path. But you may want to focus on the deep objectives too.

RtM is only a 3 turn scenario so flog your army to death....there are no VP for a well rested or supplied army...dont use your mechanised forces to breakthrough, use your infantry divs to destroy the forces on the border, and use one div at a time...so 1 div might displace/destry 3 soviets, then pour more inf through the gap to destroy left over soviets or to increase the area under control then let your mechanised forces run through the gaps to get maximum movement...

It remind me the same scenario I did in TOAW. I get a huge defeat. I sent all I have to kill the western most unit and they end up waiting in line behind the overcrowded road and  the few repaired bridges.

The point is that the western most Soviet army are of no immediate interest. Ignore them. Your Panzer must aim for Minsk at turn one.

Thank you for the advices!

It seems like I need to use my infantry better. Right now I use 3 or more divisions to attack a standard soviet position, and that´s probably to many then. I´ll guess I need to learn how to identify the strength of a enemy division better, since I´m a bit uncertain of that.

But I´ll try the scenario once more to see if I can handle the soviets better now.

Cookie: Thanks for the link!

Dale: Those cities seems to be to far away for me right now, but I´ll see what I can do with the advices you guys giving me.

I had to learn too to attack with one or two infantry divisions at a time & use hasty attacks for units in clear terrain in order to clear the soviet front line from top to bottom at both the northern & southern sectors of the front. Then I unleash my panzers east.

Please report back on your progress. I have been reporting my fumbling ways in another thread. Maybe we can encourage some of the newbie faint-of heart's by our reports. Stick with it!
