RECRUITMENT

We have several applications for the Thunder in the East team game that came in after the team slots were all filled, so I am proposing another team game be setup here.

However, before we proceed we need a STAVKA and an OKH commander. These roles are crucial and need to be filled by Matrix Legion of Merit (5 Stars) members with deep experience of WiTE and multiplayer in general.

So, I will follow these steps:

1. Assign people from the waiting list to draft teams, minus their commanders.

2. Wait for two Legion of Merit volunteers.

3. Handover to the STAVKA and OKH commanders for action to commence.

I suggest that interested players follow the Thunder in the East threads for tips on how to manage and play in this new mode.

TEAM ORGANISATION

The teams are being set based on the sequence of posts and PMs I received last time. Apologies to a few who were missed then! There are still a few on the bench now, so a third game may be needed...

OKH
Commander - Redmarkus
AGN - Duality
AGC - Vonsheaffer
AGS - Harovan

STAVKA
Commander - Q-Ball
Baltics - Buchand
West - Tarhannas
Southwest - Capt Flam

Thanks for the PMs guys. I'm now waiting for two senior volunteers to take on the OKH and STAVKA roles, as well as an email address from Buchand - not sure about the times zones.

My pm crossed - if everyone is happy with an inexperienced Baltic front commander I'm in.

The historical commander was very inexperienced, so you'll have the same learning curve he faced :)

I am interested in STAVKA command if available, though I would want to understand time commitment first; I don't want to hold-up turns!

I've been around, though......

Done! You are now the STAVKA commander, if you are ok with the role outlined below. Please PM your email address to me.

Sorry - it's late :)

The commitment for STAVKA is:

1. Receive the game turn from OKH.

2. Spend AP on factory moves, SU creation, etc. as you see fit.

3. Alllocate an AP spend limit to subordinate commanders for their own use (as you determine)

4. Execute all air base and air force operations.

5. Allocate reserves to Fronts.

6. Issue general orders to subordinates via email

7. Save the turn and send it to the Baltic command.

8. Receive the file back, make any minor changes needed, save again and send to the Western command.

9. Repeat for the Southwest command and then press F12 and send to OKH for the Axis turn.

Probably one edit and send action per day on average. Are you up for this?

Hint for the developers...
They should develop a multiplayer feature like this because there is demand.
WITE is a good platform to start doing it.

But,mmm, how much time is needed to complete a turn? It seems as if this game is going to be at real-time speed (1 week per 1 week turn ?)

You may be right, but WiTP fanboys have been playing at less than real time for many years :)

Yes, it's likely to last longer than WWII.
This is one of the key problems with playing it as a pbem game.If the game was server based, a turn a day would be perfectly feasible with a group of committed and dedicated players.

Just a question. Isn't there a risk that this slows things down? It would be a lot quicker if the Baltic commander sent it directly to the Western commander who sends it to the South commander. Of course that means you have to trust the subordinates more... but of course trust is a bit of a burgeoisie thing... wasn't it Lenin who said "Trust is good but control is better"... but still.

Yes, there is demand, and in reality it is the only way I can imagine for increasing the scope or detail of wargames. I think we are already at the very limits of a single player to master and control the detail of WITE (or WITP, that seems even more challenging)

But I am not sure if the turn-based system can be adequate. Emailing a turn when you have 4 vs 4 seems already cumbersome. What will happen when we arrive at 20 vs 20 (East+West+Pacific+Production War,...all WWII in one insanely huge game)?

In massive online multiplayer games, all players play at the same time, it is realtime...you control your units, but you are part of an alliance...is there in those games a model for future developments of WWII wargames (and when I say future, I am thinking, mmm, about 2025?...)

I only expect the email chain to be needed for 2-3 turns. Once everybody understands how the game is working, we can start email directly, maybe with a copy to OKH/STAVKA so that they can take a look and make comments...

My personal vision is for a game like WiTE at the top level, at about a one week turn per day, with the on-map battles triggering scenarios in a game like Combat Mission 2. Two players (OKH and STAVKA) play the strategic game but anyone on a team can pick a 1-hex battle to play within a given time window and the result is fed back into the main game. Any unselected battles get resolved by the dice role.
