Yes that was a flaw in my planning the base force thatI sent has no radar.

Yesterday I didnt put a CAP up but chose to 100% swep for that reason

I usually go with at least 5 or 6 radar sets for operations like this and while not bullet prove (thank god), that´s a good number to go with, at least for me.

The faster you get those in place, the more expensive it becomes for your opponent. Suddenly, when he starts losing 6 - 1 the battle gets turned on its head.

a warship with radar in the base hex does not support the air defense with its radar? at least in UV it was the way to usw radar as japanese to defend your bases.

PIR time

John is out for a few days so time to catch my breath and review next steps.

Derby has been capured and is a level 3 AF.
Darwin is critical for supplies and is proving expensive to re supply so i will focus my short term resupply onto Derby and Port Hedland.
BB bombardment of Warangai was attempted last night and achieved basically nothing so thats a good start.

Strategically

Coup de Main to capture a workign AF - Success
Follow up of Coup de Main - Poor - to much distance between TF's, lack of a base force for warangai and limited AA (all in follow up TF)

Basically I let to much distance get between my lead fast amphib TF and and the follow up TF's which are arriving off of Port Hedland now (- a little bit of buck fever allied to low fuel forced my hand I should have kept my force more concentrated but I was running a constant risk of my bluff at PH being found out or running over a sub or a LR search plane/convoy raid discoveing my force to far out)

De facto I needed to have more fuel in my AO's and to have sent my slow TF's earlier to avoid the weeks gap in my TF steaming.

Its not a disaster far from it but I need to reorganise a little.

My gut tells me with Warangai as a threat to the north my next objective should be to reload my TF's as follows

1. Broome to be captured giving me 3 operational north Australian bases that I can supply (should happen inside of three days)
2. Av Support and Engineers to be unloaded at both Broome and Derby giving me three operational air fields in North Australia
3. Fast Amphib TF to be loaded up with AA and additional radar equipped base forces for Warangai (heavy DD and CL led escort).
4. Force K and Force R (Roti and Koepang) to be my next operations both TF's to land within 5 days covered by replenished carriers and under cover of this operation the fast TF can be sent to Warangai heavy use of engineers, base forces in both operations to enable fast build up and solid bases on Timor
5. Force E (Endeh) to be delayed until after I secure Koepang (Don't rush no need to risk it yet)

This revised plan means Warangai stands alone for 5 ish days as I will probably rest my Heavies for the next few days to get a few more operational but its unlikely to be attacked that quickly (if at all) and it is the least risk way to get the next foothold onto japanese territory.

Anyway this is my plan

Basically a 5 day admin pause to tidy up the battlefield and my rear area and re create my critical mass for my next attack.

Must be organised and get my admin tidied up so my call is a 5 day pause to reorganise captue Broome, resupply Derby and Broome and get my fast APA's re loaded to bring in the bits I missed from the original Warangai assault

For the next fight I want to be operating south of Tmor where I can be supported by LBA out of North Australia and where PZB will caugt in a crossfire between Warangai based DB's and Fighters

North Australia based Mediums and LR Fighters and my 1,000+ CAG

all backed by heavy sub and strategic bomber supports

I understand the need for tidying things up a bit, but also try to get yourself some operational depth as quickly as possible. Right now, he has a single target to focus on. If he throws everything at you now, in one location, he can generate considerable mass of material (ships, troops & planes) to make it a very close run thing for you to maintain the lodgement.

If you are able to create credible threats along the same or different axis, you'll help yourself immensely. In all of the AARs I've seen that the allies have suffered considerable reverses, they've allowed themselves to be stuck in a single threat axis & defeated in detail, because the Japanese player can focus all of their resources on a single point.

In this case, you're putting a lot of eggs in a single basket - but hopefully you're stronger than PzB realizes & can weather what I'm sure he's going to throw at you (most likely, the kitchen sink).

I agree but I am not going to rush in and lose everything because of incaution - my mistake of not having the follow on forces close enough has been made I now need to take a couple of days to reconcentrate and go in hard again

Last two turns 3 DD's for 2 of mine (one of mine was a sub hit)

Generally a good turn.

My Motorised Bde pursued the japanese force which gives a slim opportunity to try an immediate shock attack.

Worth a go.

Lomblum wont stand I needed PZB to be unaware of what I was up to for a couple more days ah well worth a try.

KB is in theatre seeing lots of Jill spotting reports.

Still happy with progree my TF's are taking a while to get back to Port Hedland so may take 2 - 4 days to be ready

Shock attack failed apart from that a reasonably quiet turn.

PZB swept Akyab but looks like a failure to me no need for me to attack Rangoon now point has been made he will need to honour the threat and watch Burma my only real objective was to keep PZB from dragging forces to the southern theatere.

Lomblum fell and the 1st Jap BB led bombardmen t of Warangai achieved nothing of note.

Will rearm carriers tonight and then move back for the next phase over the next couple of days

Lost last turns replay gist of it is.

KB unmasked and hit Darwin walking into massed AA and gettign crucified - about 90 KB bombers shot down he wont be doing that again.
Efforts to resupply Darwin still impossible probably going to have to give up until I can secure superiority
Broome falls and the first of the follow on TF's arrive at Port Hedland reorg countdown starts now - will take 5 days to unload, reload and resupply my TF's
73rd Mototrised bde was kicked out of the japanese base by 2 fresh japanese Divs - looks like PZB is not giving up.

Not a lot else to say I lost about 80 aircraft on Darwins AF's but nothing really critical had no CAP because of supply situation

I need to unload supplies and get myself sorted at Broome, Derby and Port Hedland and then go back in.

My 'buck fever' of allowing to big a gap to appear between my TF's is going to make this more expensive than I wanted - I think I can still grind through it all but its going to hurt a bit more than I would like.

Waiting on aircraft to repair and sqns to get to full strength before I commit them back to the action

Andy,

how are you defending your forces during the reorg phase at Port Hedland? If he has just struck Darwin with the KB, it seems likely that he plans a major effort to strike those bases supporting your thrust into the DEI.

I have about 500 aircraft at Derby/Broome/Geraldton and Port hedland with 100,s more at Katherine (awaiting supply) Alice Springs and Perth

I also have a solid force of BB's covering my bases.

My main issue *(as a result of not keeping my TF's close to each other) is that my support units, supply and fuel were to far back and actually were exposed to a loop[ around by KB so I coulndt go storming back in I need to close up where my carriers can cover everything.

Give me 2 - 3 more days and I will be ready

You need to keep up apperances here. If PzB smells weakness now, you will be crucified at "Objective W". One alternative would be to move the CVs into a spot where they are "safe" from the KB, while it seems they are guarding W. Fly in naval support from Darwin or Perth.

Im thinking somewhere in this area. You should be spotted by his nav search, and at the same time, you should have time to run if the KB shows up.

Putting CVs there will also force PzB to act as if your entire CV fleet can appear in the middle of the battlezone the next turn.

OK my Carriers are able to replensih now not sure why not yesterday

They are all back to full strength with full complements of aircraft and will sortie tomorrow.

Final TF with mega support units arrives tomorrow at Port Hedland including multiple seabee and base forces so they will unload in a day or 2 and I have amphib TF's ready to load them up to hit my next targets.

This pause has not been good its given PZB time to get back on balance but my earlier mistake has made it inevitable.

This is goin g to take time effort and some hard fighting but so be it.

Andy

OK the fleet has finally fully replenished and has sortied.

3 new invasion forces are going along with it but given my loss of critical time I am having to re organise and accept that this is probably going to cost me some good ships.

But the butchers bill must be paid.

I have decided to undertake three operations

1. Size two dot bases on the edge of japanese territory in force sufficient that PZB will not be able to kick me off with several construction Bns to enable quick development.
2. Reinforce Warangai with another Inf Div, Base force AA Regt and other support units
3. Neutralise Koepang and Roti once and for all with heavies.

My 4 day (so far) pause has granted me the following.

Full replenishement of my Air Wings in pilots and planes
Arrival of sufficient support units to bring Port Hedland, Broome and Derby into operation as major air bases
Fully re rested and organised the reinforcing sqns of bombers and fighters.

I now have a wing of 4 Sqns if P38's (not all at full strength yet but getting closer) based at Derby that can range all the way to Timor.
4 Sqns of P47's at Port Hedland as well as numerous Sqns to P40's and Corsairs

A large number of heavy and Medium bombers spread throughout the base.

The situation is far from perfect and my failure to keep the support convoys near to my initial assault convoy has led to huge problems down the line but cest la vie that milk is splled I now need to work out what to do about it.

To accomodate these objectives I will accept a certain level of attirition is assault transports which by neccessity will not be covered in the depth I would like as I must keep my carriers together in deep water to maxmise my chances in the inevitable carrier duel.

This is going to be hairy

What this will mean is that the Koepang and Endeh invasion forces will now be in wave 3 and will not go in with wave 2

The fleet got out of Port Hedland intact and managed to sink a few subs.

They will advance 3 hexes closer tomorrow no sublety this time a straight up drag down fight my mediums and heavies are going after Roti (Mediums) and Koepang (Heavies) tomorrow. I want both of those AF's closed as I close in

I am not rushing in this time taking my time and bringing in a lot of reinforcements in one go

Ok my 5 day delay is now officially over I am tidy again I hated the delay but it was my own fault.

I just hope Darwin is resuplied tomorrow as a major force of DB and TB's based there would close down 7 hexes range of Darwin and restrict PZB's options
