Yeah, Grollub and Chickenboy, lay off Onime. He's obviously having confusing feelings towards the Swedish national ice hockey team, and this is not the time to mock him...

Indie isnt my usual genre but I like this. Her voice has something from that girl from the Cranberries.

Theyre not confused. Its blatant jealousy at being able to field a consistently solid team in every international even....unlike the prima donas Russia puts up.

Hadn't thought of that comparison, but yes, she does. She's a good kid and has worked hard on this for a long time, no pun intended. I hope yall will give her a listen.

Agreed. When I listened to her, she kinda reminded me of some Swedish artists - the voice reminded me of Frida Öhrn (of Oh Laura & SAAB Commercial fame) (She does a very good version of that song here). The style of music reminded me of an all girl country/folk music band named Abalone dots. Link here. In that video you can also see who has to be the most good looking double bass player ever.

Are those Swedes? Playing folk music? With a banjo? When was the banjo a traditional Scandinavian instrument?

There was a Russian guy who used to have banjos in his songs all the time...before he got married....now he mostly does sappy love ballads.

I love listening to banjo music. It amazes me that banjo players cant seem to help but to look laid back while silly guitar people like me are sweating and struggling.

For the record, I also enjoy the bagpipes.

Kids are good. Now 9 and 3.

How are things for my favorite fellow Russian?

I did some research and discovered that my family was not chased out by the commies as I had thought. It seems we were chased out by the Czar (think Fiddler on the Roof" I was told). Also discovered that my great grandfather was a considered a trouble maker by the local athorities and could not get a visa to leave. He switched placed with a friend who worked on a freighter and walked off the boat in NYC. The rest of the family came through Ellis Island but changed the family name later. Glad to hear this since I was told that the current family name meant "of the devil" in Russian so I really wondered what line of work they were in.

Two of my dirty little secrets too, Onime-I like some pickin' and grinnin' and the pipes myself. Don't tell anyone though. I'd hate it to get out to that there World Wide Web thingy.

I'm a proud follower of the pipes myself. Tend to like the Irish pipes better than the Scottish ones, but both are great.

Things are good. Left Lizard-land about a year ago....come to think, almost exactly a year ago.

"Chert" or "Satan"?

Either way, I understand that it was quite common for local Ukranians and Russians to give Jews somewhat disparaging monikers. I have a friend whose name is Satanovsky. We wonder what his ancestors had gotten up to to earn that one.

Its also a little known fact that the Tsarist regime was not very nice.

But I didnt know you were Jewish.

GFU and I were driving somewhere when Scotland the Brave came up in the shuffle rotation on my iPod. Her look of bewilderment and "WTF-ness" had to be seen to be believed.

Erm...your job has been eliminated. Why do you freaking care what they think? Fix your friend's computer. Then tell the bastards in IT that hers won't need reimaging now. Watch them squirm.

Your right of course......i followed up on Leo's suggestion but noted on Friday evening that the IT "guy" for our blgd had already removed the computer from the cubie to take back to his lair for re-imaging.

sigh. Its sad. I told everyone, from the floor managers to the director that all the guy had to do was log in with his admin account and double click the firmware update......problem solved. But no.....instead he (apparantly) fiddles with it....determines the machine is hosed and pulls it out to do the ghosting. If thats the process IBM requires with absoutely no thinking outside the box....then i'm better off not employed by them.

it remains and interview piece at least. I know the issue was fixable given i'd done it to 5 other machines. Its just frustrating to see yet another co worker lose all their stuff to an unnecessary reimage.

having fun tonight.....i'm in the 2nd floor lounge....watching Bleach with some wine and cheese.....and a whole bldg to myself.

I have a good buzz going......trying not to think too much about the next couple of weeks. life changing stuff, and a trip across the States and unemployment. Its kind of scary i'll admit....leaving a life behind for parts unknown. I hope i'm up to it.

Oh and yes.....Febuary from Hell continues. After 10 days at the Gym out of 14 past days, I am sporting what is either a severe bone bruise on the side of my foot below Terminus's famous big toe.....or i have a stress fracture. I can barely walk. But i feel much fitter! I should prob go to the hospital and have it x-rayed just in case while i have health insurance. its a lovely bright red swollen spot but icing helps.....(not to mention booze and a vic)

My dad just paid off one of my cards. I'm happy....and ashamed all at the same time. A parent shouldn't have to bail out a grown son.

But as the denziens of this wise thread have reminded me.....its not a sin to accept help. But i sill feel ashamed all the less.

They are Swedes, yes. And no, banjo has never been a traditional Scandinavian instrument. That video clip is the only one I've seen where they used it.

Those girls have been on a quite extensive tour in the States quite recentely (last year). http://www.abalonedots.com/en

Don't. We all have our ups and downs in life. Just repay him when you have the possibility.
